Easiest Way To Record Drum/synths? |

I recommended a some vst or plugins: HQ orchestral (for strings and more), Sax Lab (Sax, trompet, etc), oriental sound ( http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=417). The demo for FL Studio 9.0 XXL Producer will knock your socks right into the heart of the sun. Anyway, versions of FL studio after 7.0 all came with hundreds of selectable drum grooves in the pad controller. You can browse them and it'll drop them right into midi score, it's very fast.

Reaper can actually do pretty much all that Cubase can so unless the workflow of Cubase meets your needs significantly better then I'd suggest that you work with Reaper and get to know it really well rather than jumping to a different sequencer. The 600 Euros that you save could then be put towards a midi keyboard controller like an Ozone and some software like Addictive, Fruityloops, Reason, Sylenth, the Spectrasonics stuff and so on.

There is no reason to use expensive programs when You can get one that works excellent with MIDI & Audio the way Reaper does. For an advanced user/producer it may be worth the money, but I would continue to use Reaper in Your place. Though most of them look the same one may suit you while another doesn't. You mentioned Cubase, and especially Cubase feels aqward for me to work with. I just can't manage. I find Reaper inituative and easy to grasp so IMHO the step from Reaper to Cubase is huge. Now I running Samlitude, an older free version that came with a magazine. Works perfect! And I got it for the price of a magazine, I couldn't be happier. I realize a $20000 DAW wouldn't make me a better musician... just more confused  I think also Cakewalk works the same flow as Reaper, my friend had version 5 or 6 so it's some time ago but I don't think they have changed the core dramtically since. Cubase and Ableton Live are the odd DAW's for me that I can't cope with ...just something I think you should concider before you buy. Buy Cubase and EZDrummer. You don't need MIDI keyboard with those two to make grooves. Those two will give you plenty of material to play with. If you need any details about them, just ask.
