Yeah I keep doing that lately, I'm sure the YT quick access link used to be second from bottom, muscle memory takes me there, then I spot it and have to edit, DOH! I think I was editing it at the same time that you were adding your reply wink.gif

I keep forgetting the quick accesses are there. I always end up just typing the tags and have done since forever, so it hardly takes much longer now that I've gotten so used to them (youtube, soundcloud_v2, facebook_vid - and then of course the closing tag after the link) laugh.gif

Morello's solo was the most inventive.
Paisley was the only one to really play over the changes.
I agree with the "Guitar Center 1988" comment.

Before they started playing the actual GOT song, they were all wanking and one of 'em says, "sounds like GC, 1988".

It was TOM from rage against the machine that said the bit about "guitar center 1988" he really hates that stuff. Hes sitting there with some very technical and gifted players who are warming up smile.gif He's got a great story about how he was playing a community college on a wednesday and there we 2 other bands that all had Yngwie level guitarists and he thought he had to find a different way to express himself on guitar.

Found it. (of course this was after he'd already learned to play with good technique)
https://www.kerrang.com/tom-morello-the-ele...not-just-a-past

You’ve always emphasised the importance of your transition from being a skilled player to being an artist. Can you pinpoint when that happened?

it really came down to one afternoon at a soundcheck for a college gig in the San Fernando valley where Rage were opening up for two cover bands. Each of those cover bands had a shredding guitar player. I watched them both soundcheck and realised that they both had crazy technique. I realised that if there are already two of those guys at a shitty gig in The Valley on a Wednesday afternoon, there doesn’t need to be three. It made me really shift perspective. I started looking at the guitar in a deconstructed way as a piece of wood with a bunch of wires and electronics. Yes, other people have played it like Chuck Berry, Eddie Van Halen and Kirk Hammett, but I realised there were other ways to play it. Plus, I’d already been dropped from a label with Lock Up. I was already done with playing by the rules, doing what the label told us, and trying to sound like other bands. It didn’t work. So I might as well sound like myself. I began creating a dialect within the world of rock guitar that I’ve been speaking in ever since.”
