its also kind of annoying how these kids view this thing as the the most incredible piece of guitar music ever and the hardest thing ever to play. How has this become a benchmark for arriving at guitar?

Answer???Youtube 100% smile.gif

It is very overrated in my opinion, but hey were all different.I would be much more impressed seing someone play the lead to Hot for Teacher or Cliffs of Dover smile.gif As far as using a benchmark on guitar tongue.gif

I consider it a bench mark. Anyone who can really play this well, can play just about anything. But I mean play it well. It requires things that a person simply cannot do unless they are very skilled. But there is a reason teachers have not given students who have played a year or so the assignment of some very difficult concerto by one of the masters. You will not be able to play it well until you are more experienced. Today they have backing tracks and digital effects to cover, but so what? You are just kidding yourself. You know, if a person can't play without echo and modulation and sound good, in my book, they can't play.

In this particular piece, let me give you an example. Here is that last sweep. I want to see the first person here upload this, and actually play all those notes at 200bpm, clearly. Anyone who thinks this piece is not difficult, lets see you do it. Very difficult to hit the last 16th note of a sweep, move your position, and then hit the first note of the next sweep at 200bpm, and have the both ring out clearly. I keep working on that, but boy, that is really a fast transition to do that. I can do it at 170. But 200 is a quantum leap over 170. You are pushing your physical limits at that speed, no matter how long you play, to really play cleanly, with proper accents, to make each and every note ring out. Gilbert can do it. Batio can do it. Not a lot of Batios and Gilberts around. I have yet to hear anyone, including funtwo, play this section cleanly. Funtwo cheated, simplified it. Nick made it easier by doing taps. JerryC does it as written, total slop. Anyway, I invite anyone to upload this at 200bpm, so I can listen to it slowed down, and hear all the notes ring out clearly. Probably a few can, but not many, even those that have played for years. This is a difficult piece to play without compromises.

That is how you really tell the good players from the pretenders, use slowdowner. The good guys still sound good at half speed, the others expose themselves at half speed.
