When learning that piece... should the (obvious part) get sweeped or picked? I've seen people do both, but the pattern lends itself perfectly for sweepys!

I believe, when I masterd this piece, my technique should have improved alot!

it depends on what kind of effect are you going for, i would do it sweeping since it sounds cooler and more togather but if you want it more agressive i would go alternate

Re Steve Vai video sound track from the film 'Crossroads' from Jesse;
I don't know whether you have noticed but the first apeggio section runs with what appears to be concert pitch in Am.....no problem if that's what he did.
The picked Pagannini section where there is a lot of left hand flying around seems to be in F but striking the top 'E' open which would suggest its been speeded up for effect making the pitch higher....equals...trickery. has anyone ever seen Steve do it live?
I like Steve but if you watch Rising Force by Yngwie where he is doing a similar left hand aerobics he does it real time all over youtube
Tony

I mixed alternative and sweeping now when I tried it, but that's just what felt right for me.
As everyone says, do what feels the best for you.

I guess most of the people are playing those first 5 arpeggios by using sweeping.
It's personal preference tho, do it how you like it. wink.gif

Sweeping the arpeggios would seem like a logical thing to do, so why not do it like that! smile.gif

Agree with Muris and Ivan, I'd play it with sweeping.

Both is possible and actually it would be perfect if you could play it with both techniques, like this you can choose what you want it to sound like.
