Hey!

The Loomis video subject inspired this one..

I am pretty clueless about what instructional vhs/dvds I should hunt! Of course it depends on what you want to acheive but what are for you guys the best/essential ones?

Merci!

"Rock Discipline" by John Petrucci. Lots of cool tips about warming up and developing your technique. I also enjoyed Marty Friedman's instructional video a lot.

Those are good clinics. I've seen more but I think in each of those I've got at least one nice concept. Of course there are many many shred clinics and there are many clinics by well-known guitar players as Malmsteen but I didn't get any concept to work. On those clinics the important thing I belive it's to hear and watche them play and get what you can get and don't spect too much on tips, or theory or anything that doesn't come from the playing itself.

I hope this list works for you wink.gif

The more, the better BUT --> if using resources of GMC with focus, than those clinics I watched aren't needed.

I absolutely agree! I made the mistake to check out many-many instructional videos after GMC. There are a few useful stuff (especially concerning other instruments than guitar), but 95% of the info I got there I was already familiar with! Such instructional videos are great to get some cool licks from solo guitarist you like, because in these dvds they only repeat their own solos and concepts, however, general and theoretical information is fully available at GMC.

Rock Discipline gets my vote as one of the better ones. There's something suitable and useful for almost all levels of playing in it.

Ramiro gave you a very good list.

Just remember one thing - dont get caught up just watching videos. There is a lot of information out there, you can easily get lost and not know what to practice at the end.
My advice is start practicing as soon as possible. Use lessons from the site, ask instructors for help, join collaborations and if you have ability get private instructor in your area to meet up with you once a week (maybe biweekly or monthly even) to review your progress. That instructor should be somebody you really look up to and can learn a lot, otherwise its a waste of money since you have all you need here at GMC !

If you want some clever shredding find all Vinnie Moore ones, all from Paul Gilbert and Yngwie (The first one Hot Licks). These made me play 18 years ago smile.gif

I can't think of anything better than what you have here at GMC. This place is the ultimate in guitar learning and you have access to instructors on a daily basis. I really don't know what more you would need.

In my oppinion this depends on the style you want to be familiar with or to be able to play.

If you are into rock and metal, Paul Gilbert's Intense Rock series, John Petrucci's Rock Discipline will help you a lot.

But I completely agree with other instructors here, you can have all that you need for developing great skill here at GMC.
Check out Muris', Emir's of Ivan's vids, and you can learn everything you need.

You could also enroll to the MTP
