What do you guys think are must learn riffs for guitarists and why.
I will start it off Sweet child o mine
Reason Everyone recognises this riff no matter what music genre they are into. And am pretty sure lots of people picked up the guitar because of Slash

Great rock riff....rock bottom!
As for the solo...mr slash admitted this was the only solo he learned note for note...

+1 on Immigrant Song and Rock Bottom! Those were some of the first riffs I learned to play. Also maybe add "Whole Lotta Love" and "Black Dog". Nazareth, "Hair Of The Dog" is a great one too because so many other riffs are played in the same position.

"Immigrant song".
and cream "sunshine of your love" d-tuned for low chunk both these with loads of gain will always rock the house
and these are both 3 chord songs thru out ( okay maybe 4) f# and octive for main riff, chorus is A5-B5- C5 immmigrant
Iron Man,Gates of Babylon (propably the hardest of the "classic" riffs), Holy Diver

The intro/main riff from 'I'm broken' from Pantera - it really is a powerful riff that will make everybody move instantly!

Extreme - Pornografitti is a one big RIFF album that should be must learn

Under The Bridge by RHCP! Why? The intro is quite a bit tricky to play actually and will get your fingers going. Also its a famous song everyone knows that will push you to work on chord embellishment tricks which are useful later on as well.
