Today we have an amazing lesson by Ramiro covering Steve Vai's tapping in "Building The Chrurch", so...

Steve Vai vs. Joe Satriani, teacher vs. student. Who is the true master?

Tough choice but I have my personal favorite... But I want to know what you think!

Shouldn't it be Steve Vai instead of Joe Vai? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

My vote is for Satriani. He is the true master of the Force, like Yoda smile.gif If there wouldn't be for him, there wouldn't be Vai or Hammett. My very first inspiration in becomming a solo guitarist was Satriani. I like Vai a lot, I mean, just look at his technique and writing abilities, but none has so beautiful songs like Joe.

I prefer Steve Vai smile.gif
Sure, without Satriani there are a lot of things that wouldnt be, but I still like Vai. And I still dont like Hendrix, even though he revolutionized a lot. For me, Satriani is just too static, even though I loved his stuff a few years ago:)

Well, I don't know.
I can't decide, they are both great players.
I see them like two sides of the same thing

Satriani = more chiled down
Vai = fireworks

I started with Satriani and then moved to Vai music, I think it's logical regarding the complexity sometimes Vai's music has.

Both are great players of course. The great news is that my ipod will play both smile.gif It will even play guys folks have never heard of. Some of my fav players are nowhere near as known as Vai or Satriani. Richie Kotzen (not his work in Poison though) for example, Blues Saraceno, Bill Steer (Carcass, the other guy not Michael Amott), Chris Poland (Megadeth whose early work playing crazy rock/jazz fusion is pretty amazing)

Many times, folks that start as Jazz players, classical players, even blues players bring something to Heavy Metal/ Heavy Rock that makes it fresh and new all over again. I just love that wink.gif

At first I really liked Satriani's style but as time passed I have moved "over to the dark side". I have to say I like listening to Vai more now than I did before so I guess my votes for him.

And as for Anakin vs. Obi, well clearly Anakin is the victor.

As far as innovative guitar playing goes - Vai is definitely my personal favorite. As far as song writing goes - Satch for sure.

I have to say both are probably among the most music guitarists out there though!

But of course none of them beat Joe Vai ph34r.gif

Yes, definitely Joe Vai wins all. tongue.gif

But Steve Vai just experiments so much and takes music to a whole new level, I enjoy that a lot. Vote Vai.

My vote is for Satriani cool.gif ...for tone, groove, note placement, melody and writing. IMO "The Extremist" the best inst guitar album ever.
Vai is awesome though, and a great performer.

Well, not sure who is better, they are way different. I probably enjoy in more Satriani's songs than Vai's, but that doesn't mean one is better over another. Satriani also has a nice tone for me.
