Which Scale Next?

hey guys,
been learning scales for a while now.
I now know the Minor and major pentationic scales
and the Major scale(Ionian) and wondering which scale to learn next

Inn bands Like Metallica, Pantera, Soilwork, In flames
which scales are used alot inn that type of music
or is the most common.

also what kind of music is the Ionian scale used alot inn,
so I know when to use it

My Next Scale To Learn

after playing around with the minor pentatonic scale I know it pretty well and wondering
which scale I should learn next?
its the only scale iknow so far so I was thinking the major pentatonic or the major scale

and a few more questions:
how well should I learn the scales before learning new once, do I need to play them really fast
and can play them inn inn alot of different keys or do you use them more as tools when you make
stuff.and do abit of thinking first

and about the major scale, why are the boxes not 3 note per string, isnt that better?
after looking at the major scale boxes im abit confused on how to practice such a scale

which fingers should I use or is considered the best choice because I can do it
inn 2 ways with this kind of pattern

pointfinger---middlefinger---pinky
or
pointfinger---the strong bending finger(dont know what to call it )---pinky

I got a few licks that I've come across inn the past and im conserned about the picking.

FIRST LICK: is from Cowboys from hell solo by Pantera
and not sure if i should start the lick with downstroke or upstroke this is the first one:

So should i start this lick with downstroke or uppstroke?cause the picking stays the same when I move down the fretboard. I can play it both ways but I've started with a uppstroke and played it like that for a while
so whats correct? or does it matter?

another two licks but not from Cowboys from hell
I find these kind of licks inn Blues alot or similar once.

THIRD LICK: I can play it like downstroke-downstroke-uppstroke and repeat Which is what I do
Or should i alternate all the way?(havent practiced this much)........

I find it very hard to do this cause when i've played the 3 notes
and start it again my picking is reversed like: DS-US-DS-----US-DS-US------DS-US-DS

FOURTH LICK: again its the first 3 notes thats the consern, should i DS-DS-US or
just alternate all the way DS-UP-DS
And when i start this Lick over again should I start with Downstroke or just alternate like mad....
the pull-off at the end makes it easier but not sure if i should do this...

Howdy fellow guitar-mayhem-makers!

My name Erik, im 22 years old and live inn norway.
I've played guitar since i was 15 and played inn a heavy metal band for 3-4 years
im self-taught and feel im not progressing anymore.(atleast not fast enough! )
All this time i've never learned any scales and other tecknical stuff
just downloading tabs and learning
songs and jumping around!

also done the mistakes like stop playing for a month
which i really regret so now im gonna make a practice schedual
(and use a metronome )
I know a few solos from stevie ray's pride and joy to
Pantera's Cowboys from hell and metallica stuff
but far from flawless so i want to get better.....

So here I am ready to get serious and learn it all
and Kris will be my teacher!!

Working on the pentatonic scale now and some speed licks
now...
