Spiff little doc about the legendary Focusrite Studio console. (Yup, that focusrite that makes the recording interfaces) The company wast started by a legendary dude in audio named RUPERT NEVE (you may have heard of NEVE consoles, then again maybe not depending on when you got in to recording) smile.gif

So they ONLY BUILT 10 of these HUGE recording consoles and 6 are still in working studios to this day even though they were built 20 plus years ago.

I'm a guy who tracks/mixes "in the box" and always have, probly always will, but it's hard not to find this MASSIVE console a bit sexy smile.gif Much of the build is Military spec gear and hand built. Just an amazing piece of kit.

**THE KICKER is that one of them was bought by a young guy and he installed it in his parents spare bedroom and the house is now a studio smile.gif

I started out on large consoles way back in the 70s. First one I was trained on was a 16 track split rather than an in-line. We then moved on to a bigger 64 in-line SSL but I've also use Neve and other consoles at other studios. We have some Neve outboard preamps and EQs that we still occassionaly use here. Neve are very nice and have a very definite colour, which can work wonders on some projects. Some famous albums recorded on Neve consoles include Nevermind, Californication, Heroes, Synchronicity, Brothers in Arms - that may give an idea of the Neve type colour. Nowadays there are two diffferent Neve companies if I remember correctly - AMS Neve and Rupert Neve. Both still build studio hardware including consoles, EQs, comps etc. AMS are UK based and RN is in the US.

I have an old friend who is a home recording fan and he has a big SSL 9000, he bought it used and built his home studo to house it. His electricty bill is scary.
