Put the string above the little dent in the nut, unwind it a bit (not too much, 1/4 of a circle), and pull it and place it on the upper edge of the nut. Then play it and see if it makes the noise. If it doesn't, the problem is the dent in the nut, you may need a nut replacement. Nut wears in time, specially the plastic one, so installing a good quality nut is well worth it, and not too expensive.

That sounds like fret buzz to me. Do you notice that the strings hit the frets when they vibrate when you are playing in frets 1 to 5?
If that's the problem it can be fixed adjusting the brige height and/or the truss rod. BUT don't touch the truss rod if you don't know how to do it, or you might damage your neck! I'm sure it can be solved with a proper set-up, if it sounded good before it will sound good again. I'd take it to a guitar tech if you are unsure, specially if the issue has to do with the truss rod. Better safe than sorry! -------------------- Guitars:

That first video is really good, I couldn't explain it any better, just follow that advice, but be careful and don't turn more than a quarter of a turn or so just in case. If your neck is too tight you might need to loosen it a bit (anti clockwise turn) and see if that helps. If you only try like a quarter of a turn it shouldn't damage anything.
Isn't there any local guitar shop nearby? They won't charge you just for asking what might be wrong with your setup, and then you'll know that you are doing the right thing. -------------------- Guitars:
