Hi there !

I've a really boring problem, when I fret 1st up to 4th frets on all strings it sounds like "shtong !", I changed my strings for a hour and it still sounds like that :/. It does this sound only on the frets mentionned before.

I dread that my nut is out but I don't think so, because I didn't hit it anywhere !

Please, help me, I want to play my riffs as soon as possible mad.gif

Put the string above the little dent in the nut, unwind it a bit (not too much, 1/4 of a circle), and pull it and place it on the upper edge of the nut. Then play it and see if it makes the noise. If it doesn't, the problem is the dent in the nut, you may need a nut replacement. Nut wears in time, specially the plastic one, so installing a good quality nut is well worth it, and not too expensive.

Can you post a YouTube video of the problem? Or even an audio file?

Did you change all your strings together or one at a time?
If you took them all off together it's possible that your Trem needs re-adjusting slightly!

The strings that were before I change to these new ones were taken all off together but there was not any problem (the new strings got put one by one), that's recently (about 2 weeks I'd say).

Here's video : (excuse my english accent biggrin.gif)

That sounds like fret buzz to me. Do you notice that the strings hit the frets when they vibrate when you are playing in frets 1 to 5?

If that's the problem it can be fixed adjusting the brige height and/or the truss rod. BUT don't touch the truss rod if you don't know how to do it, or you might damage your neck!

I'm sure it can be solved with a proper set-up, if it sounded good before it will sound good again. I'd take it to a guitar tech if you are unsure, specially if the issue has to do with the truss rod. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks Fran

I saw these videos :

Do you think I can do it myself ? Because I don't have ANY money to pay a tech to fix it.
Maybe someone can add advices on how I should do it because I don't know what type of "bowing problem" I have.

Thanks a lot !

That first video is really good, I couldn't explain it any better, just follow that advice, but be careful and don't turn more than a quarter of a turn or so just in case. If your neck is too tight you might need to loosen it a bit (anti clockwise turn) and see if that helps. If you only try like a quarter of a turn it shouldn't damage anything.

Isn't there any local guitar shop nearby? They won't charge you just for asking what might be wrong with your setup, and then you'll know that you are doing the right thing.
