It's shockingly simple to get good tone from your amp smile.gif
1.)Get a SHURE SM57
2.)jam it in the cone of one speaker on you cab
3.)Use a decent preamp or even a plugin verison of a decent preamp.
4.)Turn it UPKK!!! Or turn up the volume on the plugin version.

BAM !!! That's it smile.gif

Yeah I have an SM57 and did have a tube mic preamp, used to record a lot with it, had to run 95db to get a decent signal. Might try again soon. Mertay and you helped me a lot if you remember.

Yeah! smile.gif That's the thing about going with a mic/amp, it has to be a bit loud for it to get good tone recorded. As a result, home recording has moved away from amps in large part for recording and moved toward more software based approaches. Still, Sometimes it's nice to hook up a real mic to a real amp. smile.gif

For a while now I noticed specially the younger generation while are curious to guitar tone but never hear comments on sound. Probably because they're so flooded with cloud based music streaming.

I'll be going to a friend of mine tomorrow to help with acoustic recording, I asked him to give me examples of what sort of sound he wants (for mix stage) and we mostly listened older stuff (dire straits etc.). So since we won't be using cools mic.s, tapes or preamps like in this video, with plug-ins a goal like that would be extremely challenging. So I explained him there are some things plug-ins do better and somethings they can't achieve...

Well I guess some things are lost in time or every generation as well as gained, this though I'll never understand being such a critical part of recorded music.

Thanks, we had to delay to today as I had some other work pop-up. It was an audio restoration job for 2 tv shows which came last minute (had only 3-4 hours to fix 2 hours of audio material, it was terrible)

Speaking of audio restoration, have you tried the RX 7 app? I've used RX to repair all kinds of audio and it's been the best thing I've ever used. It automates a lot of what used to be very time consuming and tedious work. It does a better job of it as well.

It's really good with noise, I even fixed a leaking room mic. background noises with it. I had dialog and music in 2 different tracks, with music not so good but dialogue really good.

But for pop/clicks though with quiet it works ok, louder stuff still needs critical narrow band processing with the mouse. So its not perfect but they've come a really long way.

Agreed! It's come a long way since the first version. It can be really helpful in some cases. Before these types of tools came out, fixing audio issues was just much more tedious and time consuming imho. It still can be of course. wink.gif
