You can use just about anything for a studio desk. One of my faves in the past was a pair of saw horses and a big wood door as the desk. It was cheap and an had tons of surface area. Your desk should reflect your needs and perhaps even your style. Let’s take a look at some pre built desks for home studio use.
1.)QUICK LOCK Z250 ($280) Dimensions: 44x36x22” This is a great first desk. For many folks, space is the limiting factor. If your first studio has to fit right next to your bed in a small bedroom, this one is a good choice. It’s built to use vertical space more than horizontal space. Thus it will fit where larger desks will not. It’s built by quick lok so you can expect it to be sturdy, hopefully. This is designed specifically for music production so it’s got spots for your audio monitors and computer monitor, music keyboard etc. It offers a lot for under $300. 2.)STUDIO RTA PRODUCER STATION ($500) Dimensions: 72wx41x30” This unit is a bit larger and a bit more expensive. It’s got a lot of handy features on tap. You can mount your rack gear in the rack mounts on either side of the seating position. Also, the entire thing is on wheels so it’s easy to move it around. In addition, the keyboard tray slides in and out and there is large desk area for your full size midi keyboard, etc. The top level is big enough for two computer monitors and your near field audio monitors. 3.)BK MEDIA HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE WORKSTATION ($250) Dimensions: 31.5x4-19x24.2” The main feature on this one is that it is height adjustable. You can raise and lower the desk so that you can work sitting or standing. Working in a standing position is said to be much more healthy than sitting all the time and “standing desks” are very trendy just now. This one allos you to do both sitting and standing depending on what you feel like doing. You get two tiers to place all of your gear on. It’s got less surface area than some of the other units but hey it’s adjustable. 4.)ULTIMATE SUPPORT NUCLEUS 2 ($1,200) Dimensions: 84x39x44” Ultimate makes some very solid stuff. I have some of their guitar stands and they are very sturdy. They are also a bit pricey, sorta like this desk. This unit is not cheap. However, it’s well built and has a very hand U shape which sorta wraps around you and lets you keep everything within reach. The surface area is quite large and the second tier is also big. Of course, some folks don’t like the wrap around thing and want a straight surface so it comes down to preference. 5.)STUDIORTA CREATION STATION ($415) Dimensions: 59x30x37” This features a solid build and plenty of desktop space. It does not have a sliding keyboard tray though. It is big enough for your midi controllers but won’t dominate your bedroom. It’s got room under it for your computer and on top for everything else. It’s not a “slider” desk, but it is on wheels so it’s easy to move around. *check out this melodic fusion lesson next time you are at your desk! https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Fusion/ |

John Browne has a Zaor desk and a very nice room: If I move to a bigger place at some point then I might look into something like a Zaor desk. Currently my home studio room is about 11½ ft by 9 feet, so things are somewhat tightly packed in here. I would love a room at least twice the size. He's got the same headphones as me -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight.
