Hi - I am new to the forum. What is the best set up for an apple mac (I have a windows laptop worse case), that would allow me to:

1. Combine playing the lessons / backing tracks, with my guitar playing over the top (ie connected to the apple) so I can record the combined sound.

2. Best amp modelling option so I can at same time select different sounds / tones to use ?

Any other tips or advice thanks

David

Here is a free recording software DAW : http://www.reaper.fm/download.php
Its in beta version for Macs , I don't know about its stability.

You will also need an interface for recording, I recommend something like this because its cheap, good quality and easy to use: http://line6.com/podstudioux1/specifications.html

With that device you get a free guitar/bass/vocals modeling software so you can dial in all the sounds you need in there.

Then when you want to record the lesson, you ask the instructor for the backing track - load it in recording software (Reaper) plug your guitar in Podstudio hardware and record!

Also you can route all the sound to go through Pod (all computer sounds including lesson playback etc), so you can jam along. (at least you can do it in windows).

Hope this helps, tell me if you have any further questions...

Cheers Bogdan

I think you should try to connect to an orange instead, they taste better. tongue.gif

Cheers - I might do that - my apple is a little plastic tasting.
