This stinks of bored and over qualified scientists grabbing a headline to ensure extra funding. I'm yet to find out how they came to all of these conclusions but I bet that theres a collosal margin for error.

its like how they say stuff are millions of years old because they dated it with carbon dating, when it really doesnt work because there are too many assumptions needed to make it work, such has how much C14 when in the atmosphere when the thing died etc.

Well, you can find out how much was in the atmosphere when you look into the ice in glacier shelves like antartica. The ice preserves it fairly well and provided enough information to make a reasonably accurate mathmatical statement, Pretty cool i think smile.gif

There are species out there that would feel differently on that. Except for cats. I think they like the big monkeys, the big monkeys know how to use a can opener.

but which bit do you look at? because im sure it changed over the different layers, so say (completely random figures) you get a piece of leather that has like four bits of carbon 14 left in it, do you dig up the ice that said it had a hundred bits of carbon 14 or do you dig up the other bit that said it had four bits of carbon 14 to start with...?

Well, Im not sure exactly what goes on (Ecology is escaping my mind now), But the amount of carbon is uniform throughout the ice, If thats what your asking, Ill try to find more information on it, In case im forgetting something or overlooking something.

oh right, cool smile.gif because im not entirely sure bout the exact details, but i just remember i realise in a science lesson carbon dating shouldnt work because of the levels of C14.

Well, that to the cat I found comfortably sleeping in my bed and blankets one of these days when I forgot my window open... dry.gif

But that should be really an interesting show to see, is it a series or what?
