Hello guys!! I'm now working on new lessons for the Indie Rock series (The Strokes Style is now live HERE). One of the bands that I choose is Pixies.. they have been a very influential band... so I have been listening to them all day as I always say when I'm working on a "In the style of..." lesson. I would like to share here some cool songs..

Thats one of the bands I grew up with. They followed me through highschool and university. Doolitle is their best album and perhaps one of the best "indie" albums ever.I was very sad when they split up because i hadn't seen them live but then they reunited and I finally was able to see them play live (a couple of times). THanks for doing that indie stuff. Thats my music and I am really happy to have this lessons here.

hey mate! I'm glad to know that you'll be following these series! You can always feel free to suggest bands that could be covered! This style is very wide so I'm trying to do my best to summarize it in a series of lessons. smile.gif

hm I would say additional classics (acchording to my taste smile.gif )to be taken into considertion are:

the flaming lips, pavement, dinosaur jr., sonic youth, the smiths, neutral milk hotel, joy division, radiohead

newer stuff:

bright eyes, heatmiser/elliot smith, arcade fire, bloc party, architcture in helsinki, broken social scene, Yo la tengo, black keys, death cab for cutie, tv on the radio, built to spill, decemberists and many more.

that would be my essential indie list

Man, Pixies are so amazing. I can't wait for that lesson.

I second ItSME3's Built to Spill idea. Their guitar leads are so melodic! I am always impressed by the guitar work toward the end of Carry The Zero - http://youtu.be/owNtZIn7L4A.

A few more to add to Itsme's list:

Fugazi, Big Black, Tindersticks, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds/Birthday Party, Mudhoney, The Jam, Halo of Flies...

The Pixies were the soundtrack to my late teens early 20's where it was all sex drugs and rock n roll.

I'd like to throw Shudder To Think into the mix too Pony Express Record is a great record, full of dischord and goodness!

Glad you like that Built to Spill track, Gabriel! If you're in the mood for an indie guitar odyssey, check out this killer Built to Spill track - http://youtu.be/4Ay8pYi1RV8.

Exposions in the Sky are another incredible guitar focused indie band - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnTCwg7-UKg.
