Hello all,
Can someone please tell me what this chord is and why does it sound "sour" but great at the same time. I've set the video to start right at the chord but maybe to get the feel you may need to backtrack a little.
Click here to go straight to the chord https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=org1ITRGGNg#t=51
And here if you want the whole song (The chord hits at 51 seconds in).
Cheers
Phil
Kinda hard to tell exactly but I think it's an E chord with a Bb in it. That sour but cool sound is either a 1/2 or tri-tone rubbing against the tonic.
Maybe this or part of this ... X2230X = E(b5)
Sounds the same to me - I also tried it on my axe and that's what I also got Let us know if it fits what you have so far. If you wouldn't listen too close, it might even sound like a simple E5 - I was writing something while I listened first and that's what I got. Only after that, I thought - hey, let's pay a little more attention here
There's something about it that really makes it sound sour but sweeeeet, maybe an effect, I don't know, my ear isn't that good yet especially with distortion.
By the way, if you get chance to see this band live they are awesome, I've never EVER seen so much energy on stage, particularly from the rhythm guitarist.

PS. Cosmin I have been practising but just popped on to see if I have had any answers to this
Yeah, I figured they were in drop Db (C#).
And yes - cool tune! Heavy on the 'Kings X' influence.
Currently favourite band, have them on all album random play in my car, the depth of the music is brilliant and the drummer is awesome.
Listen to the drumming in the chorus on this track, kicks in at 1:04
Whoa, totally unexpected But I like the tunes! Thank you for the recommendation Ken!
Ahhhhh ... understood.
Here's another catchy one for you Cosmin.
And a pile driver of a track here, sound is a little thin on this video though
Enjoy
Hey Phil thanks for sharing these, mate I'll give'em a listen!
Tell me, what are the most important elements that get you hooked to a band?
Hey Phil,
Of course you can Whenever we like some sort of music, there are certain elements which draw us to it and those elements are a common trait of character that define what we like about music. Thus, I can figure out what sort of lesson recommendations I can come up with later on when the lessons will be more like song passages which encompass a wider number of techniques and applied theory concepts/principles
You are into very dynamic and lively styles, a balanced mix of technique and melody, the music has to have attitude and you like the American sound - that's great! It makes two of us You know, I can recognize a band that comes from the USA from the first two chords I think.
Anyway, these are my thoughts - did I make it?
Well you weren't wrong, I do like the American sound BUT I also love Black Sabbath, Iommi is so powerful and dark. I guess it's like the old blonde/brunette debate, personally I don't care if a woman is blonde or brunette, if she floats my boat she floats my boat, so basically what I'm saying is, if I like it I like it and I don't always know why
When I get back from Majorca I'll share some more of my likes.
Please comment on my A minor lesson.
Cheers dude
Phil
Well, I don't state that I own the absolute truth , but I hope I nailed some of the elements in my previous observations and yeah, that's very true - music is of two kinds - the one that transmits something and that one that doesn't Otherwise, it would be pretty useless to try and fit it into little boxes, as it's too big for that.
Anyway - what's important is that you're on the right path with the practicing, so let's keep rocking!
Another couple of BSC gems for you.
This one below contains one of my favourite lines ever. "I could lose a damn war all by myself, if you were on the other side". Brilliant IMO. Nice Santana style licks too
Enjoy
Phil
Lovely song though the word "underSTANDS" sounds a little odd to my ear. Tear to my eye every time I hear it.
Thanks for sharing these, mate - looks like you know a lot of tunes from these guys!
Got all of their albums, amazing band live, got to see them on an exclusive 4 date tour in the UK at very small venues (around a 1000 capacity) to say thanks to their hardcore fans. It was called the Southern Hospitality Tour and had a Q&A session after every few songs. Seeing them next week at Birmingham LG Arena
Cheers
Phil
How very nice
I've seen Victor Wooten perform live last evening here in Bucharest for an audience of about 1000 folks - check out this amazing tune - this is the version recorded in Montreal, but he did the same tune last evening:
This guy is simply out of this world - check out his groove power and how expressive he can play!
