How come they never asked me for an interview?????? mad.gif mad.gif

I met Lee Dickson a couple of times, he is an amazingly nice guy to talk to and a huge font of knowledge on all things 'Guitar'!!
The first time I met him was in a Bar in London. There was a group of us (me and my friends) all sitting around a big round table. The conversation had gotten around to one of those 'If you could do any job in the world, what would you do?' types. Anyway, it got around to me and I said:-
'I would love to just be someone's Tech, I'm not too interested in being the actual 'Rock Star' anymore!'
'Like whose Guitar Tech?'
'I don't know really, someone like Eric Clapton would be cool.'
Just after I said this aguy sitting on the next table tapped me on the shoulder and said:-
'I do that.'
'Do what?' I asked,
'I look after Eric's Guitars, my name's Lee Dickson, nice to meet you!'
After which I sat and chatted to him for a good couple of hours!!

An acquaintance of mine has been playing in the Doors tribute band 'wild child' for years - since the late 80's or early 90s(?).
Because of that gig he eventually became Robbie Kriegers guitar and amp tech ... and now he subs for Krieger when he can't or doesn't want to do a Doors gig or tour.

Almost exact same story for a buddy who is the drummer for EW&F ... started as the drum tech.

Being a tech is a great way to get your foot in the door so to speak (pun intended).

*and Jones - please bore us! I love this stuff.

I think the guitar tech stories are a fantastic insight in to the world of pro musicians, as are some of the session and touring guitarist stories.

Interesting! I did some guitar tech work for a while when I was getting started teaching. Hated it, absolutely loathed it. Just wanted to play the damn thing wink.gif

Oh, have a quick recovery man!

I just noticed Slash's techs last evening and they were buzzing around like bees to change guitars for the whole band almost all the time! Awesome gig, by the way!
