What is the ruling of the m13 chord

I know Am13 from looking it up is A, C, E, G, F# but why is 13 f# and not F which is the 6th note of the Am natural scale?

I looked to see if you'd covered it in one of your lessons but couldn't find anything

Hey,

The reason is that the chord asks for a natural 13, Am13 would mean A C E G B D F# for the basis of the chord. If it wanted a b13, it would be written Amb13 or more commonly, Fmaj7/A or even F/Am7.

Hope that helps!
