Help, Alternate Picking

When you alternate picking the string, do you rest the side of your palm on the bridge, or do you just pick the notes freely (without the right hand touching anything.) I hope you understand my question. When i try to use alternate picking while resting my palm rests on the bridge, i get very accurate and fast tone, but when I when i dont it becomes the opposit. If you say "Yes, rest your palm on the bridge" Then my question is, should you always rest your palm on the bridge, even when your phrasing? When I play the lower strings my hand is over the body or just in the "air" (actually the forearm is over the body resting). And when I play the higher strings the hand could be over the lower strings muting them. Maybe if it helps you could check any of my lessons the slow takes have lots of different angles to see what's happening with the right hand. However, this is a matter of personal preference. Playing from the air I think is the best way, though I play with my right hand on bridge. Sometimes I play almost from the air, but that's just for gypsy jazz. Practice is all that matters. If you play 5 years, 5-6 hours per day with the hand on the bridge - it will sound awesome, so it's up to you.
