Hi everyone!
I'm very low about improvisation and I want add this one to my plan. But I dont know how i should start, what do, where looking for backing tracks ect... For now i know A minor pentatonic scale (all boxes). And my question is: What i should do next? How learn to used this scale in good way?
Btw. sorry for my english xD
Here's what a very good teacher told me once:
Start by limiting yourself. Meaning, choose ONLY 3 notes of that scale, and improvise with those. Change rhythm, do vibrato, do bends, do quick patterns, stay in one note for a long time, etc.
If you know minor pentatonic scales you surely know the natural minor scale too. It's a good basis to start. Imagine a melody in your head, don't have to be long, and try to repeat it on the guitar, using that two scales . Then slowly begin to connect short phrases to a one a bit complex. That's a point of improvisation.
To take it from where Sinisa started, you can develop that melody by first trying to play it in various positions over the neck (for the beginning, that's why it should stay simple - so make up a melody using 3 - 6 notes) and apply various techniques: vibrato, bending, different types of harmonics, maybe even tapping. Make your little phrase sound as different as possible, by playing it with different dynamics - play it soft, play it aggressive, use your pick or fingers! Explore would be the word, I think!
