Well, actually I'm skilled in copying, I search lot of pictures in the Internet and I make my arrangements, I'm not inventing all this stuff just copying it. Anyway I spend lot of years painting miniatures and I have a good technique there and I'm better at painting than at drawing

I have to admit I was a bit skeptacle when I opened this thread.....I mean hand-painting a JEM seems pretty risky to me.

yeah, I discovered 2 new techniques, one is mixing black color with some water and you can look at the results in the degraded part and the other is that I can use a... "metal stick" (I don't know how to explain it) to remove color and make thin white lines like in the moon/planet rays

I will use this knowledge to paint the front

yes, of course I have some ideas for those parts, but I'll paint them when I finish all back and I varnish it 'cos I'll need aprox. 4 days for the varnish procedure. I have all planed mate !!!

Thanks guys !!! the back is almost finished, I should do some ornaments and it will be ok !!! Tomorrow I will buy varnish

I use "acrilic" paint (I don't know if acrilic is the word, I look for it in the translator but I cannot find it... is the paint that works with water, like for painting miniatures). I'm so happy with the results

I should talk with Kris about it !!!

From what i have seen your using tamiya model paints which are acrylic so right choice of words great designs by the way to loving your work

mmm seems interesting, but I prefer my own drawings. The only point where I don't have experience (because I already now how to paint) is with varnish. I varnished the fretboard when I did the scalloped but now I feel a bit afraid... anyway I do some tests and seems to works correctly with acrilic paint.

Hi, I've also been kind of a Warhammer Geek once upon a time, just that I played the Lord of the Rings-version of the game I think have like over 50 Citadel paints in my drawer and around 100 unpainted figures as I haven't painted anything for over a year
One thing that I wonder if would be cool is if you took some metallic paint and drybrushed it over the white surface, maybe it would look a little more "shiny" that way? Another thing would be some kind of Lord of the Rings-motive, maybe the door outside Moria with Gandalf and Frodo outside?

All black ?? no, I don't like completely-black guitars (although I have one ) and the reason is because I always wear black clothes so a black guitar doesn't looks good (IMHO)...

Hey guys to news... One is Good and the other is Bad... the good is that I've recorded 1 hour of my painting work in video... the bad is that the VideoCassete was old and it has bad quality

Anyway I think you can look it... but don't worry, I'll speed up the cassete !!! hahahaha, one hour is too much time... I will compress it in a 3 minutes video, I think it will be time enough

About the black guitar yeah it won't look good against black clothes...Its just the edges of guitar that seemed not fitting so cool as others parts of the paint job - to me
But its cool this way also !

Have you put protective finish over the back side ?

and yes, I varnished the back, actually a light varnish, only 2 times, that's the reason why I didn't upload pics till Friday, because I cannot paint while the back is not dry enough. When I finish all parts I will apply 4 or 5 "varnishes" more

Juan you have outdone yourself man. I can draw good as well, but your stuff is superb!
Excellent work with those dark heads on the pickguard, shading of goth chicks is awesome, and that thumbstone with a crow and lightnin is a not great but superb touch. All the pictures look very nice and guitar really looks great man. I can't wait to see it finished. It will be a masterpiece that's for sure.

PS I ask you again about the fretboard, looks little bumpy?

I don't know where I can put the EMGs 'cos I want to do another thing to my guitar, in spanish we talk it "shielding", I don't know if it's correct in English, and I'll do a lesson about it !!! so maybe I will wait another week before putting pickups.

(I think I can do also a lesson about putting pickups I'll ask to Kris )

Early on, I wasn't sure that the front was going to end up looking as great as the back design. Well, it turned out great...amazing.

yeah, I think that is important to have a guitar with my OWN specifications. For example for me works better thin strings with 0.7 picks, scalloped neck, etc. That's the reason why I want to change pickups and to change controllers (volume, tone, etc.) and put the a bit near where I play... well, it's important that your guitar works well with your playing style. This design is another way to feel good with my guitar and a good motivation to play this guitar
My guitar will sound better, for sure !!!!

I cant believe Im the only person who thinks that looks like crap, it looks like something a 4th grader would do. I guess you had fun and thats whats important, but maybe you should have left painting to someone who actually knows how to paint. Id be embarassed to play that on stage anywhere. Sorry man, your a great guitar player and seem like a nice guy so dont take it personally, but I just really dont like what you did to that guitar. It makes me sad.

Just because its not what you exactly like doesn't mean it looks like crap. I think it looks really cool and unique, even though its not quite my style. I prefer to play style guitars (superstrats, lp's ect.) but I loved it when Dime would use out of the ordinary guitars. Not to mention art is about expression, so just because its not your personal favorite doesn't mean its bad, just different.

More respect to Juan and his work would be in order. I myself draw very good, and think Juan did awesome work on his guitar. If you think you can do it better, or done similar stuff, you could give his some constructive criticism about his drawings, not bash him for his own work that is obvious he has put a lot of time and effort to it. With that kind of behavior, don't expect to find any sympathies on the forum. Bashing is never appreciated.

I think it looks pretty cool. I wouldn't do it to my guitar but you can certainly paint to a high standard. I do love the headstock logo. I prefer natural wood guitars anyway so I hope you don't take offence that I wouldn't do it to my guitars. I think you did a great job though and I'd rather have your design that a JEM which I dislike.

Juan, Im sorry I wrote what I did. I did come across alot worse than I needed to in order to express my opinion. I dont think that your a bad artist and to be honest dude my opinion really doesnt matter anyway. One negative comment out of 11 pages of positive responses isnt bad at all. Your the one with the guitar and as long as your happy with it thats all that matters. Maybe Ill post a picture of the guitar I just finished and you can tell me what you think.
