I have a minor problem... I really want to be in a band but nobody plays an instrument... (Brass don't count!!! I dont like it when guitar and brass play together...) But I do know of one other guitarist... but I think he just started and wouldn't help much. There isn't anyone that plays bass or drums, or sings rock/metal. dry.gif I'm only 13... I have no idea how to get a band started

I think this is in the correct section of the forums rolleyes.gif

advertising is one option. There must be forums, papers, school note boards etc.

Guitar and brass makes teriffic jazz.

Don't take for granted the other guitarist don't help, having people to play with is developing so he or she may catch up quickly.

If you're within reasonable distance of a guitar/music shop most will have a pin board for ads and stuff as well. Even without a board the staff should know the local music scene. I also used to find just going around with a guitar case can work - people at school/work etc will ask you what's in it and so on...

Cheers,
Tony

Okay well the internet is a great place to start when looking for a band, go check fourms and stuff. Examples Facebook and Myspace is great. Sometimes just auditioning for exhisting bands is the best way to get a good band going. My recommendation for you is.. your only 13 don't start a band i know it seems fun, but really its not a good age to be in a band your too young, im not saying your skill is not there its simply that fact that the band really wont go anywhere. If you just want to get a group of guys together thats different but maybe others have different opinions idk. I am just getting my first descent band together now at 19. And i still have a second little group of guys i jam with. Those are just my 2cents hope it helps.

I saw a advertizment the other day on ultimate-guitar that had a huge selection of musicians of all types looking to meet other's,maybe you could check that out.Your 13 you have plenty of time to find other band member's.Work on your own skills as much as you can and when the time comes you will find other's to join you. smile.gif

Not going anywhere is part of the fun and the learning process. Learning what doesn't work is arguably more important than learning what does (although I do agree that a band you start at age 13 isn't likely to go far, its still a great learning process though).

There's nothing wrong with having a Jam Band just for fun. Even if all you do is School Talent shows or just to learn some cool songs.

if you can't find anybody who plays instrements. Why not talk your Friends into learning.

Say you have three friends, One can start taking drum lessons the other can learn Bass and one can practise singing.

I know it's easier said then done, but it's worth a shot.

Have your mom bake cookies, and get a Big Jug of something to Drink for your Practises.

if you all start practising now, by the time your 16-17 you could actually be pretty good.

I think it's great that you want to start a band, I hope it works out.

It's better to to be putting your time after school into something constructive then be out on the Streets doing something you might regret one day.

All the Best smile.gif
