So would it be detrimental for me to just pick up my guitar as I pass it (as I do 1,000,000,000,000 times a day) and just run through a riff I'm in the middle of learning - one run through to perfect the bend, fix a buzz or simply make me smile before I put it back down and go back to work?
Yes.
The only exceptions are
1) You have achieved perfect timing after decades of practicing and playing (please post a recordings of yours)
2) You are playing with a band/drum machine/recording
3) You are preparing an accapella solo with temposhifts in it - and you don't have a programmable metronome.
So yes
always - and you will thank me!
