Hey Guys, I received some video files and they only play audio but no visual image at all. I've tried it in Windows Media, VLC and Quicktime. I also tried them in Sony Vegas (which is where I will be using them) and I get the same result: audio with no visual.

This is the type of file:

Quicktime Movie (.mov)

I've heard something about codecs ? Installing them so certain videos play.. but I know nothing about this at all. I installed VLC and Quicktime specifically to see if the vids would play on them so I don't understand why I would have to download yet more stuff. Any help would be massively appreciated smile.gif

Hi Ben!

Did you try any of these?:

http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/ or http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

These utility's can helping you identity what codecs your need.

All the best.

I would suggest using Any Video Converter to convert those files to a more suitable format for your system : http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

Thanks Jeff, I haven't tried anything like that yet. It's probably the way to go.

I'm trying to avoid converting the files if I can because I don't want to degrade the quality. But if I need to, I've already got that program after you recommended it before smile.gif

Try installing the Mega version of the K-lite codec pack, has worked for me for stuff like this in the past: http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I agree with K-lite Mega pack, but beware, previously uninstall any existing codecs, because you can create even bigger mess cool.gif !

I've never manually installed any codecs that I'm aware of. I've only ever done stuff like download VLC or Quicktime (which was yesterday) but I haven't done anything else weird. Do you guys think I'm ok to go ahead and try that Megapack thing ?

Something you should to try. smile.gif
But is there' any information what kind of codecs do you need?
Try only to install of these codecs if you never do anything like that.
(personally I don't like installing full codecs packs, because I think this unnecessary, using of 10% of 100)

I don't know much about quicktime, but could it be that you need a key? A certificate? But I'd guess QT would tell you if that was the case.

I agree you can try to using video convertors! If it doesn't work try opening it with an editing software like iMovie or something and convert it from there! You can send me this file and I will try to convert it for you!

Hey Guys I think I know what the problem is. The files are icod. which some research tells me is a Mac thing and incompatible with a PC. Even converting them doesn't work on my comp. However, if the sender can convert them first then it should be ok ?

Yap - that codec is available for Mac only sad.gif Try to get the sender to send you a file in a different format (mp4 preferably).
