I'm trying to create some new videos for the REC program and I'm having trouble syncing my video file with the audio file because the frame rate in the preview pane is around 1-3 fps.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Make sure that you set the project settings (alt+enter) accordingly to the material format you are editing that may be the problem. So if you have NTSC HD materia for example -l set the same format there.

Just above the preview window you can set different preview settings > I usually have - preview > auto set. Using draft setting there will result in smooth playback but low quality preview. Try experimenting with those settings. If you set them to Best> Full you are bound to have problems when editing.

Are you using compressed video as source files? This may be the reason. Also, you can adjust the quality of preview just above the window.

We all have that. Vegas preview can't be 100% real time. I usually look on my two audio signals and sync those. Mute audio picked by the camera and render. When you render it will display ok.

I'm using the MP4 file straight off the camera. It's 720p, so it may be that my computer can't handle video at that resolution very well. I'm going to try it on my more powerful work computer tomorrow to see is that doesn't help.

Its possibly that! But you should be able to get a descent preview using lower settings in the preview options. It would be best to record audio both on cam and and through audio recording device. Then you just need to sync both audio sources. That is the only way to get it 100% in sync.

It's the mp4 compression that is causing the problems. The big resolution is only making it worse to process.

What video format should I be using then?

I synced a video at work: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=33210

At the lowest preview settings (draft > quarter) my frame rate was 6 or 7 fps. My work computer has an Intel Core2 Quad @ 2.4 GHz and 4 GB of RAM. I figured that would be plenty of horse power.
