I would very much like to know your comments on replacing normal single coil pickups on a Strat with Seymour Duncan Hotrails to get a good humbucking sound. I do realize however I wont get that clean Stratty sound which will be ok. At the moment I have Dimarzio YJM's which are noiseless but only seem to sound good if you thrash them, but I only play in a small room at home.
Gratefull for any comments
Tony
Yngwies singature coils are pretty high output since they are aimed at his high gain playing. You can get a normal ouput range set of coils for better cleans and great rock tones.
If you want a humbucking tone a hotrail is always a good idea but remember: Single Coils sized humbuckers don't sound as good as real sized humbuckers!
Check under your pickuard, maybe you have the cavity space for a humbucker! Another pickguard and a new humbucker and you have a Fatstrat!!!
Actually the YJMs are very, very low output. Yngwie uses a booster into overdriven Marshalls to get the high gain. The low output allows clear definition even with tons of distortion.
Hotrails are a great Pickup, but I wouldn't necessarily swap all 3!!!
As has been suggested, see if your Body is already routed for a full-sized Humbucker first, if so, do that conversion first!!
If you have the chance to go for a real full size himbucker I would also go for that option, you could get one that can be split if you want to keep the single coil option.
Thanks guys for all the advice I am taking it on board.
Many Thanks Tony
