I`ve been attending music scool since the day I started playing (4 1/2 years), and have lately wondered if it`s still worth the money. But since my teacher is such an awesome guy, I haven`t quitted.

Therefore I was pretty surprised on Wednesday. He told me something he had neved said to a student before.
He was a rock guitarist, and I have mastered the theory and technique required to be a "rock-guitarist". Of course I`m far from great, but he claimed he didnt have anything else to teach me which I couldn`t teach on my own (or on GMC which I have mentioned for him tongue.gif )

If I wanted to progress as musician now, I had to start studying jazz (scary unsure.gif )
He recommended another teacher for me, so I think I will be signing up for his classes as soon as a spot opens up

Just wanted to share it with you guys smile.gif

Glad to hear this. smile.gif I actually wouldn´t take jazz, but first learn blues, rock, boogie, classic because jazz kinda includes all styles. But if you like, you can start the way to guitar hero from the end. tongue.gif

DO IT! It was like the same for me. I had this really friendly cool teacher who was into rock mostly. He recommended me to transfer to another Teacher that's into Jazz because I was starting to take an interest in theory. The sad part of the story is that I only have like 2 lessons with him left, then I'll be too old to attend the music school here (sucks doesn't it?). THat means I'll have to start bugging Pedja with even more questions smile.gif

Yeah, I got exactly the same response from my ex-teacher - there was nothing more he could teach me and my progression would only come from lots of practise and ear training; something he couldn't do for me.
I was a bit disappointed when I was told this - I quite liked having lessons but he was right..
As for jazz and music theory/creativity in general - there are several lifetimes to lead before understanding and developing it all.. so it's all good smile.gif

Wow! Congrats for that man!!. You must be a nice player.
I can tell you, from my experience, that Jazz is a brand new world to find, that I'm still finding no things every day.
One advice, never stop studying because there are always new things to learn

Thanks guys for the nice words biggrin.gif

I still have a lot to learn from rock/blues etc, but I`m actually a bit excited to begin with the jazz. Okay, so there`s a billion scales and some styles of it which I don`t like, but I think it will help my phrasing a lot and understanding of music in general smile.gif
Well, of to play stonerrock! My band is reahearsing for a Sahg tribute! Check out that band guys, seriously cool.gif

See you around smile.gif

Congratulations man! Jazz is definitely something that represents the ultimate step. But as Muris nicely said, Jazz is not the only music although lot of people tend to look it that way. Try to stay open on as many music styles as possible, cause there is good in every kind of music out there. This way you become a more all-rounded musician. I wish you the best with your new teacher! Cheers smile.gif
