GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Weird Mountain Names !

I was just reading about the Lake District and I spied a mountain called... wait for it.... Great Cockup.
In British slang 'cock up' means when something goes wrong. 'Oh, that's a total cock up !' or 'We really cocked it up'. It's not a rude phrase, even though it may look like it.. it's just funny So calling a mountain Great Cockup is basically calling it a Big Disaster !!

This reminds me of an area of the mountians that run through where I live. There is a place where there is a small gap in the mountains and one side of that gap is known locally by the name Jesse's Butt. Whoever Jesse was, I'm not sure he (or she?) wanted to be remembered in this fashion!

Yeah I think its actually supposed to be pronounced so it rymes with "Cute" Everybody around here says it the other way, which makes it even more crazy.
Brown Willy for the name of a hill? That's great! I do not really have anymore weird hill or mountain names but what about town/community names? The farther you go out into the countryside the more interesting they get. For instance, I live near a little community known as Stumpy Bottom, (who knows why its called that) and there is also a really small town around here known as Frog Level.

Thats just fantastic! "cockup" is a fantastic term!
I've come across these before-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Disappointment
They're not mountains, but still funny!

When we name things in Denmark, it is ok to exaggerate:
For example a hill of 147 meters is called the "Sky Mountain"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himmelbjerget.
Also I remember an episode of Jackass, where they find the name of the Danish city Middelfart quite amusing
Finally I just googled this up:

A lot of silly places

There is a city called "Hell" Michigan, here in the States.
And in Oregon, Mt Hood used to be called "Wy'East" (pronounced "why east?") by the Multnomah native american tribes. And, our bluegrass band named ourselves Wy'East, as well. It's kind of a weird mountain name, but it's no Cockup!

Well this little couple of mountains here are in Cayey Puerto Rico and they are called "Las tetas de Doña Juana" which believe it or not means "Mrs. Juana's b**bs"

Man there are some "interesting" names for places out there. Imagine being a well known guitar player from one of these places..... Reporters ask you where you are from and you have to say something like, "I'm from Shitterton!"
