GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Rg1570 Vs S470dxqm

Posted by: Cherio Jan 29 2008, 06:17 AM

hey guys

looking for a few opinions on the ibanez 1570 and S470dxqm
Im having a hard time choosing between the two.
I went to the guitar store to try them out, but only the 1570 was there (s470 was sold a few hours before dry.gif ).
So I played the 1570 and it was really nice, the neck was great and the sound was nice.
They told me the S470 was not going to be in for a while, so just want to know what you guys think.

My mate sold me his evolution dp159(brand new, never used it), so hopefully I will put it in the one I get.

I like to play metal, neoclassical, rock, classic rock.

I have an S470dxqm its green or blue or black or somthing, never seen it before and it was very cheap $300 instead of 650, I would not have payed the full price for it though feel just isnt there. The ZR trem is pretty amazing but the 22 frets is a huge downer for me, the neck is a bit WIDE from ground to ceiling for my personal taste. I prefered the RG prestige neck waaaaay more.

And that one has some better pups and with an evo it will be sweet, specially on basswood.

I've got an 01 S470 DXQM (red quilted maple top), and I've got evos in the neck and bridge on it. It sounds fantastic. I love the sound of it, that said, I paid $300 for it used w/ Ibanez HC for it. I don't think I would have shelled out the $650 for it because in my opinion you can get better value. The 22 frets are a downer, as the previous posters have mentioned. The thinner profile is fantastic, but I'd really love it to be 25.5". The Xiphos is a better value at that price point, IMO if you don't mind the outlandish shape.

The Xiphos has a tremelo that wears down alot faster though. The Edge III tremelo wouldn't be my choice for that reason.

If I'm not wrong, the RG1570 is a Ibanez prestige guitar, which means it's a part of Ibanez' high-end series. So it should be all around better than the S470.

EDIT: I'm by far no expert, so I may be wrong, and I am not talking out of any personal experience, this is just what I've read, but it should be pretty accurate.

The build quality on my MIK S470 is almost comparable to my MIJ RG550 (Prestige), the difference being quality components on the RG and there is a visible joint between the headstock and the neck on the S470 while it's nearly impossible to spot on the RG550. Not sure what trem is on the RG you're looking at but if it's a flavor of the edge pro, then it's going to be more sensitive than the ZR. The ZR isn't very good for flutters, but handles everything else like a champ.
