I'm also a great fan of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits. The best CD I have from them is the live album Alchemy. You can wake me up in the night for the Sultans of Swing of that cd. It's the best live-song on a CD I know.
One of my favourites songs is Romeo And Julliet and Money for nothing.

From his solo albums I'd prefer Shangri-la and Sailing to Philadelphia.

Mark is releasing a new album these days and will also start a new tour.

You are thinking of solos, chords or all together?

He has a good one with early Dire Straits called "where do you think you're going" that is suited well for a beginner. It's has both acoustic and electric that are fun to play and don't present too much of a challenge.

Good point Jess, that's easy tune to play indeed.
Key of A minor, basic grips etc.
I thought our friend want something easy to recognize, that's why I said Money For Nothing. smile.gif

Muris, it's funny that you mention money for nothing because as much as I love Knopfler, I have never played it before! ohmy.gif I like that tune too. Shame on me! mad.gif huh.gif laugh.gif I'm gonna learn it this weekend. (after I finish in the style of Luke - that is!)

Yes indeed, we played Money for Nothing with my former "band" but as our singer didn't know the lyrics, we were doing the riffs in loop.

Where do you think you're going is one of my favourite song. I'll try.

Thank you.
