- How many time have you been playing guitar?
Bought my first guitar when I was 17 years old so 27 years ago. This is crazy, it does not feel that much sad.gif
I played a lot during the first 2 years. I played in a band covering songs from GnR, RATM, RHCP, Metallica, AC/DC...
Then got less time (university, work, kids) and played less and less.
The past 10 years I pretty much only had a 6 month period where I tried to play regularly.
In that time-frame I also broke my left wrist in a motorbike accident and more recently my left elbow in a skateboard accident.
That did not help me play!

- Favorite guitarists, bands and musicians.
I taught myself the guitar by learning songs from "Appetite for destruction", so Slash has been a big influence.
John Frusciante from the RHCP is a big one too so is Tom Morello from RATM.
I know listen to more funk music, such as James Brown, The Meters, The Crusaders, Jamiroquai, ...

- What are your guitar goals?
Immediate goal is to make my improvisations more fluid & melodic.

- How would you like to you see yourself in 5 years (related to music and guitar)?
Keep playing in a band and gig locally.

- How many time can you play guitar each day?
I can fit 1 hour most day during the week and 2 hours a day week-ends.

- Do you have playing live experience?
Yes.

- Which are your strong and weak points with guitar?
Strong: Listening, fitting the guitar in a band. Sound. Rhythm (chords/licks).
Weak: improvisation, technical stuff (speed)

- What do you know about music theory?
I have some basic understanding but this was not an area of focus (bad mistake!)
I'm currently learning the fretboard (I feel this is critical) and learning intervals.

- Can you record videos of you playing?
Yes I can.

- Share here audios and videos that reflect your current playing.
I'll put some this week-end.

Hey.

Not sure yet wink.gif I've got a BeatBuddy so I'll pick one track from the songs I've gathered.

I first need to find a way to record audio + video. You do prefer to have video as well right?

Cheers.

Hey,

Here are 2 tracks. I've used BeatBuddy for the drums (and bass on cosmic girl) and a looper to record/play the rhythm part. The solos (on the fly impros) are "as is" with mistakes, no editing/re-takes.

I picked "Cosmic girl" as it is a pretty fast track according to my standards wink.gif I'd like to be able to comfortably play 16th notes at that tempo. This tracks also highlights my lack of scale knowledge.

The other track, "impo in Am" is based on chords I've just made up. not sure what they are. I mainly used the Am pentatonic scale with a few other notes that sounded good to me...

Cosmic girl: https://soundcloud.com/user-11043100/cosmicgirl/s-zWKsb

Impro in Am: https://soundcloud.com/user-11043100/impro-am/s-Pz3EU

Cheers.

Hi friend! Thanks for this nice improvisations. Your playing is very tasty.

I'll design a guitar routine for you that focus on improvisation and technique.

Do you have any GMC lessons that you'd like to learn?

Hi Gabriel.

Thanks. Can't wait to see what you'll have for me!

I went thru my bookmark and I think that lesson would be a good one: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...soloing-lesson/

It's a difficulty 6 which will be challenging but that's a good thing wink.gif

Cheers.

Great! Let's start:

Routine 1: Technique + Theory

Technique:

Let's start working on this lesson that you've suggested: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...soloing-lesson/

Take your time to master each lick and try to find out what's the theory concept used, what's the scale, and what's the relation between the note choices and the chord sounding in the backing.

Theory & Improvisation:

Are you used to the CAGED SYSTEM? Do you know all these shapes related to the chords?

Attached File  Pentatonic_Major.pdf ( 67.85K ) Number of downloads: 84

Learn it in all keys and apply the shapes over this backing track all along the fretboard, playing C major over C and F major over F, focusing (targeting) chord tones.

Ask me everything you need to understand the tasks.

Great! I recommend you to see the chord shapes as "arpeggio shapes" that are contained in the scales. You could also visualize triads, like in this lesson:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...c-scale-triads/
