Well since I want to try some singing in the band (or atleast backing vocals) I will need a mic.
Now start the troubles ... laugh.gif

I dont know a ... about them, you can buy some for €19 and some for €400 but I want someting relative cheap.
Can someone recommend me some mic or give me some more information about them?

shure mics are the industry standard mate, i think its the SM58 for vocals, around 100 euro and virtually unbeatable at its price point.

I agree with sted about sm58. There are also Shure Beta series which people also use a lot. They are a bit cheaper. Sennheiser had some great reviews about price/value so you need to try.

I have both a Shure SM58 and a cheap copy (cost £35) and i much prefer the cheap copy when playing live with my voice however the shure is the ultimate for recording.
everyones voice reacts different in every mic, you might find that your voice sounds amazing through a £15 mic and sounds really bad through a £200 mic.
You just have to give them a go, but no matter what, with a Shure SM58, you have a very high chance of being compatible with it, its just an awesome mic smile.gif

Hey man. Something I learned with a few visits to music stores.

There are no good microphones!
There are microphones which are good for your voice, and those which are not...

I particularly found very hard to sing in SM-58. The sound itself is good, but you have to put a lot of energy and sing very very close to the mic ("kissing" the mic).
I wanted dynamic microphone, to avoid buying phantom power, but ended up buying a condenser one to be able to spend less energy on singing, cause I really want to concentrate on guitar instead....
I tried a different few condensers, such as Beta 58, Sehnheiser 865a and AKG C5. For my voice the AKG C5 was so superior than the other ones that I could not buy anything else (even though the price was much higher than I initially planned).
I am sure that for other voices SM 58, Beta or Sehnheiser would be a better choice than C5 wink.gif

Shure SM59 Beta is great choice for live performance. It has more highs than regular SM58, and it is really tailored for singers. Great bang for buck.

Like others have said, 58's are the choice for the budget. They're primarily a live/road use microphone, and as such come over-engineered from the factory. That is to say that the magnets in the coil are actually 'overly magnetic'. This is because magnets inevitably lose their magnetism when they're banged about, so it just means they'll last longer on tour. However, it makes the sound a little tinny and sharp at first, which if you use it at home can be a bit of a pain as it'll take ages for the magnets to get to a level where they sound nice and warm.

A lot of engineers will purposly bang the 58 mic on a hard surface repeatedly to lower the magnetism of the coil to get a better sound. I don't recommend this obviously unless you know what you're doing, but just an interesting bit of info.

Well the 58 looks very nice for me but I'm a bit worried it'll cost to much ... €111 + miccable ... I thought more about something even more budget ... though it seems like a great mic I'm not sure I can sing that well so ... smile.gif

Hmmmz this is weird.

Mic

It depends what's your budget man, but there are Shure PG series that are cheaper and quite satisfactory. If your budget is less than PG series, I use Samson Q4 mic, it is very cheap and I sing backing vocals on gigs thrugh it, it's good enough to do the job.

The bottom link is a Bundle-deal. Musicstores often do that to make stuff look more attractive to first-time buyers =)

This one is more "into" my budget, because I dont want to spend €100 on my first microphone.

IMHO it's better to get one good mic for 100 which you are going to use your whole life instead of getting a decent one which will dissapoint you sooner or later and you have to get a better one.

Get the Sure sm58 dude, countless classic songs were recorded with that one, it's industry standard; it will serve you well for a long time!

Shure Sm58 is the very basic Mic for live performances. Shure Sm57 and beta 57 works great for voices and choral arrangements. But, it depends on you

I can imagine you will say: "I bought the Samson", and someone will answer: "Oh you bought the dog?" smile.gif

just kidding mate smile.gif Don't worry, it does have a "low budgment" name, but it doesn't feel low cost when you hold it in hand, and it is good for gigs. There are Q6 and Q8 models as well, I believe Q6 is also a good option.
