Well I'm doing graphic design in school and now I have to make a cd cover for a band I like.
You guys would think, HEY a cd cover that aint hard ... well it is. tongue.gif Everything has to be perfect for the teachers, have to say why we used this and that and why the color etc etc.

So I've chosen for Korpiklaani because I really love them but I have one major problem ... the most of their songs are in Finnish so I cant understand them and I really need to know the lyrics for a good design.

The Album I will re-design is called "karkelo" and I allready know that means "party".

Could someone help me with translation of some lyrics? Here's the links to the lyrics site of the album.

http://www.darklyrics.com/k/korpiklaani.html (it's the album on the bottom)

If someone would like to help me , really thanks in advance! smile.gif

That sounds like it would be a smaller list for the folks here that you're asking to translate out of their own kindness, maybe? smile.gif

I'd say post the smaller list of untranslated phrases.

Definitely do not use Google translate. It's no good at all, since it only knows a few words from here and there and no phrases at all. It falls at the synonyms at the latest. I'll translate it for you, since I'm Finnish. smile.gif I'll post it here in a couple of hours, now I'll go enjoy my sauna.

Ok, since these lyrics aren't the easiest to translate (they're written in an oldish Finnish which makes it difficult) and since you're "only" making the cover, I'll just go over the general ideas of the songs.

All the songs have an oldish feeling and figures of speech that handle nature, especially the Finnish nature. So in advance I recommend you to bring that forth in some way: perhaps a sauna with the equipment or some spruces at midnight or such. A wild, northern nature.

These are just my interpretations of the songs, so please don't come after me with an axe if I don't get it right. It's not that big of a deal since it's "just" a school assignment.

Vodka's already in English, you should be able to cope with that.

Erämaan ärjyt is pretty much like Vodka. It's a song about a man bragging about how he goes to sauna, gets drunk and fools around with girls. Erämaan ärjy means sort of a ranger, a really tough man (more like a bear) who lives in the wilderness.

Isku Pitkästä Ilosta is a pun of a Finnish proverb "Itku pitkästä ilosta". Practically it's a song made by using powerful, raging metaphors, once again handling nature. Hammering rain, exploding thunder, howling wind among the forests et cetra. There are things about a world-war (not in the style of World war 2, but more like the Vikings' Ragnarök). A song filled with power.

Mettänpeiton Valtiaalle handles some kinds of forest-gods, it's a mysterious song that reminds me of a quiet night in the wilderness.

Juodaan Viinaa
is a cover. The title means "Let's drink booze" or "Drinking booze". It's a sad song about men who have become alcoholics. This is a potential idea for the cover, since alcohol is a national troublemaker here in Finland. Many Finnish people suffer from problems related to "Kuningas Alkoholi" (the King Alcohol).

Uniaika is a difficult one. I think it handles death (Uniaika meaning "the time of dreams / dreaming") in a sad, yet accepting way. I see mist and darkness when I read these lyrics (it could be just me). A dark song.

Kultanainen tells about a blacksmith who is tired of human women who are too weak and fragile. So he makes a metal woman for himself (Kultanainen meaning "A golden woman"). I think this could be in the cover, too, a metal statue.

Bring Us Pints Of Beer is in English, too, so you should be able to handle it.

Huppiaan Aarre is a funny song about treasure hunting. It tells about a cold, crispy morning (like a very cold autumn) and a treasure beneath a stone. A nice, idea, too.

Vesaisen Sota
is an epic story about a great warrior, who is a son of the forest. The song handles his war against many people and all the misfortunes he has to face. Nevertheless, he is a powerful hero who is not to be forgotten. I got an idea like a tall man standing on a rock in a forest. Sounds pretty cool to me.

Sulasilmä is probably the most difficult song to understand. It's like a really old national song or poem about a beautiful girl who falls in love with a man, who then leaves her without returning. It's not really that important what actually happens there, but the mood is the key here. It's somewhat like a dark fairytale, like the Grimms' stories.

Kohmelo (meaning hangover) is an instrumental.

Könnin Kuokkamies handles a peasant's life. The peasant works on a field day after day, earning his bread. It's a mysterious song, which reminds me of cold, hard ground and a grey sky. For some reason I see a dark character wearing a hood somewhere in the field.

That's about it. I hope this was of little help to you. smile.gif
