Hello Guys And Gals! Options

Hi all. My name is Dave, and I'm an old fart learning to play guitar. Well, I'm 44 almost. Anyway, I've been trying to learn for about the last 2 years, and know just enough to play pieces and parts of some songs sloppily. I would really benefit from actual professional lessons, but have not been able to afford them, so I do what I can by watching youtube and frequenting online learning sites. I belong to several forums for guitarists, and enjoy making friends/acquaintances with folks that share my passion to learn and play music. I don't aspire to "make it big", but do want to be a part of a local band one day before I die. Thrash Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, etc.) is my favorite genre, and my favorite band overall happens to be a grunge band (Alice in Chains). I live in a small town in Arkansas, so it would be especially nice to meet others from my area. I look forward to engaging in conversation with everyone, and hope I can contribute positively to this forum. Cheers!

I think we should be able to help you with this! May I ask:

* Have you tried playing with the backing tracks at GMC?

* Have you got a recording of yourself? (audio /video)

If your goal is to start playing in a band - what really matters is if you can keep time and play to a beat. Sloppy playing is not really a big problem, many established musicians play sloppy.

So I think with a few simple directives - we should be able to make you perfectly suitable for band playing.
