Hi all. My name is Dave, and I'm an old fart learning to play guitar. Well, I'm 44 almost. biggrin.gif Anyway, I've been trying to learn for about the last 2 years, and know just enough to play pieces and parts of some songs sloppily. sad.gif I would really benefit from actual professional lessons, but have not been able to afford them, so I do what I can by watching youtube and frequenting online learning sites. I belong to several forums for guitarists, and enjoy making friends/acquaintances with folks that share my passion to learn and play music. I don't aspire to "make it big", but do want to be a part of a local band one day before I die. laugh.gif Thrash Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, etc.) is my favorite genre, and my favorite band overall happens to be a grunge band (Alice in Chains). I live in a small town in Arkansas, so it would be especially nice to meet others from my area. I look forward to engaging in conversation with everyone, and hope I can contribute positively to this forum. Cheers!

Hey Dave/Arkanseen - awesome to have you here!

I don't aspire to "make it big", but do want to be a part of a local band one day before I die. laugh.gif Thrash Metal (Metallica, Megadeth, etc.) is my favorite genre, and my favorite band overall happens to be a grunge band (Alice in Chains).

I think we should be able to help you with this! May I ask:

* Have you tried playing with the backing tracks at GMC?

* Have you got a recording of yourself? (audio /video)

If your goal is to start playing in a band - what really matters is if you can keep time and play to a beat. Sloppy playing is not really a big problem, many established musicians play sloppy.

So I think with a few simple directives - we should be able to make you perfectly suitable for band playing.

Welcome again to GMC! biggrin.gif
