Hmmm. I have to say I agree with all rules except this one:

8. No discrimination. Discrimination of any kind, religious, sexual or otherwise will be tolerated.ç

laugh.gif I guess it should read "will not be tolerated", or I might be too sleepy already! smile.gif wink.gif

We have made it like that on purpose to be able to keep track of who read them. Anyone remarking this obvious error obviously did. And you're the first. wink.gif

Another reminder.

I would also repeat what Micke said here.

In our capacity as moderators we act to ensure that the forums are suitable for members of any age, gender, etc. The posting guidelines are in part there for this purpose. If a moderator pms you after they have had to edit one of your posts that transgresses the guidelines then replying to them that the guidelines are 'lame/stupid/whatever' is inappropriate and shows a lack of respect for the moderator, their authority and the other members of the forum who do abide by the guidelines.

As Micke says on this,

'anyone trying to undermine a moderator's authority while doing his or her work will have to be prepared to take it all the way to the finish line!!'

Tony - on behalf of the moderating team

What's up with these constant unnecessary 'reminders'? Yes, there are forum guidelines - we all understand that they need to be followed. Constantly rehashing them is trite and superfluous.

As a moderator I am very aware of how necessary a reminder is and when it is appropriate to post one. In this particular case it also follows on from a number of instances of people questioning either on the forum, or in a response to a pm from a moderator, the moderator's action, authority and the posting guidelines. As such the reminder is not 'unnecessary, trite or superfluous'.

I agree.

If there are individuals causing trouble, how about PMing them individually.

I can see 1 reminder after a handful of problems..... But seeing this thread on the new posts list all the time makes me feel like a child that needs to be reminded of everything all the time.

Just my opinion. Thanks for listening.

And if we are allowed to express our opinions openly, and I'm about to find out, Tony, I gotta say that your posts come off as quite rude. Perhaps thats why the frequent reminders rub some folks the wrong way?

However, moderating is needed. And appreciated. Maybe if we werent made to feel like kindegartners getting out of line it'd go over better. To my knowledge we are all customers. And getting snippy with the customers is bad for business.

Moderate on man, we love that there isnt a bunch of trolling going on here. And I love that I can come here and know I wont be seeing inappropriate things all over. Makes browsing at work much easier!

I agree with Jer, those reminders worsen my mood more time than anything that was related to them ( in fact I don't remember anything else ). The atmosphere on the forum is top class, people feel more less like "at home" here, and such "administrative" reminding every month makes the enjoyment smaller. If someone does something wrong, than PM'ing him would surely solve the problem...

I might be incorrect but I believe that the moderators here are not paid for their services, and take the time out of their own day to keep GMC such a fantastic environment for us to participate in.

If a large amount of forum breaches occur then it must become a reasonably tedious task to PM each individual.

That said, GMC is not a dictatorship and as consumers we should be intitled to discuss what we think could add to the service.

Just keep it respectfull - Mod's have feelings too smile.gif

99% spot on - the only bit incorrect is that I don't have feelings wink.gif . The other mods do though, so be nice to them smile.gif.

BTW jer - I write the way that I do as that is the way I was taught to write formal prose - grammatical (usually), succinct and pointed. That's just my writing style.

I agree AJ. 100% Moderating is necessary, and they do a great job.

The issue here is when posting guidelines and moderating the individuals that need moderating turns into repeated speeches over the loudspeakers in less than friendly tones. We all have to hear it. It lowers the friendliness of our beloved GMC.

Some folks dont want to be told every few days to stop peeing in the pool. Even though they know they arent the guilty party.

I dont want pee in the pool either.

So go find out who is doing it and stop them. Without harassing general populace in the process.

Thats what were discussing now.

If thats what the GMC staff wants to do its within their power to do that. Hey, its their sandbox. I think this is a case of lets evaluate how were moderating and tweak it a bit to be more effective.

Tony, no hard feelings man. I'm glad to know that you arent trying to come off harsh. And I appreciate succint more than most do.

I think you can understand what I meant though. In general "reminders" your audience is 90% people who dont need the reminder. A "preaching to the choir" kinda thing. The folks who need moderated probably dont read the announcements anyway. They are in the bathrooms smoking! smile.gif Or out letting air out of our tires.

This is a guitar site. The best one I know of. And once I found it I quit looking. I've referred at least 3 people to it and will keep doing so. That being said its populated by musicians. And musicians rule. But one thing I do know about musicians is they usually dont respond best to formal prose.

Some of us, if not most I'd think, prefer the more human approach. If I wanted to feel berated I'd put the guitar down and go to work....

I'm sure these reminders respond to mini-spikes of bad behaviour that take place behind the courtains, I bet that's unpleasant for everyone involved, so when that happens a small reminder appears in this thread, to minimize the chances of "naughty" stuff happening again.

That being said, when I see this little reminders it doesn't really matter much to me, as I know I'm a good guy laugh.gif tongue.gif, but it's good to know that the "men in black" are out there, doing an unpleasant job to keep our metalhead hearts pure. smile.gif

By the way, once again it's great to see that we can discuss about anything politely, you guys rock.
