Is it just me or Kirk and James are not on the same tuning in this video???
Sad, since this is one of my favorite songs of all time...
I don't want to deceive metallica in any way. It's one of my favorite bands. I just wanted to have an unbiased specialist view (totally contrary to youtube comments ) to see if I am going crazy...
Hmm yes I'd be interested in hearing what people think as well - to me it sounds like it could a badly intonated guitar which would need a different vibrato to compensate.
I'm gonna go with poorly intonated guitar + a few outside notes that weren't really great choices. I only listened to the first ~90 seconds.
ouch ... "poorly intonated" is nice ...
I think we can assume that with a massively experienced band such as them, knowing this is a media performance, all is intentional. These are musicians who do things that some might think break the rules, but to them, it is just artistic license. I like it.
It happens often, and I can understand, but , my God, sometimes it really sucks...
"show must go on" !
Terrible
Man, that van halen show is like a train wreck. I can't look away. I keep hoping it'll get better and yet it only gets worse.
to be honest - I think this is one of these "dubbed" Videos where some clown plays over the original soundtrack!
Just listened to the Van Halen Vid - I´m SURE that it´s a fake! Intonation is one thing - but why shoud Eddie forget how to play the guitar!!
Yeah the Kirk's guitar was probably poorly intonated, teh higher frets are really dissonant.
Jump performance was due to badly adjusted keyboard sample rate I believe, I remember reading it somewhere couple of years ago..
That's what I always like to tune or intonate all my guitar by myself before playing. Guitar techs I hate you!!!. hahaha
Hmmm, I didn't think about intonation. Thanks for the replies guys. This is something to watch for.
