Hey guys! I have a question about recording covers. When you record a cover do you play along with the original or you download a special backing track without guitars? If you download a special backing track, could you recommend any site? Thank you smile.gif

In the past I used to play along with the originals... nowadays I use a midi or a guitar pro file as a backing track to practice the song over it.

I record over the original track but I turn my guitar really loud so it's noticeable and it's set apart from the original mix.

Yes, I play with the originals also. I lower their volume so mine can be heard, but not too much. I like to have the mix just right so it's not completely drowned out by me.

There are MIDI backing track of most songs available. Import them into DAW, and turn off the guitar, simple as that.

If you need backings with vocals and without guitars, there are some that are available. What songs do you seek btw?

I didn't find midi files but I found some GP files. You can open it with Guitar pro, mute the guitar and play it over the other instruments. You can also export a midi file and then import it into your Daw to use some better Midi instruments.

This is the link: GP

Usually, if I need a track really bad and I can't find it anywhere, I make it myself or play over the original smile.gif the thing is that in the past years, I didn't have to learn that many songs in order to give this idea too much thought.
