I downloaded Steinberg's Virtual Bass and Reaper. I want to write a bass line in GP 5 for a backing track, export it to midi, import it to reaper and apply the virtual bass effect to it. Am I on the right track, or am I missing something?

I was able to export to midi and then import it in Reaper. This is where I am stuck. I'm a total MIDI newb, but at the same time, realize how awesome it is. Therefore, I would like to learn how to do this stuff yesterday. tongue.gif

I realize the simplest way is probably use a midi controller, but since I just dropped a boat load of cash getting my little starter studio going, I am sort of strapped for cash. I was hoping there was a comparable software solution I could use until I can spring for the extra hardware.

Thanks,
Kevin

You can't do it, because Virtual Bassist has only one octave, and it serves well, only as a groove instrument. Try "downloading" (buying) trilogy bass

The point is that we don't support piracy. smile.gif

Other point is that Virtual Bassist is not for that purpose. It is for some fast groove programming, but not for playing MIDI from GP, because it has only ONE octave, and not suitable for that. Try trilogy instead. smile.gif

OK! I now have Trilogy, GP5, and Reaper working together as described in the original post. Write it in GP5, import the MIDI into Reaper and apply the effects using Trilogy. I have that working.

I have the demo version of Addictive Drums and recorded a couple minutes of a drum beat that I liked.

The drum beat is in 4/4 - 110bpm.

I wrote my bass line in GP5 for 110 bpm (x.5?).

I imported the very simple bass line I created for testing, but the bass is playing at a slightly faster tempo than the drums.

What am I doing wrong?

Don't assume I know or understand ANYTHING about this stuff. I am a total NEWB. I very well be missing something obvious or going about this the round about hard way. If there is anything you can think of that I may be missing or doing wrong, please let me know.

thanks,
Kevin
