Hey hey!
I'm matt, I've played guitar for four years.
I started half way through my GCSE'S on my music course. Before that I had played drums for two years (and before that I played trombone and did several performances/concerts)
I taught myself guitar after being inspired by my dad (also a guitarist) and many hours spent listening too Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden. During my last year in on my music GCSE'S it was my A* compositions which saved me from failing. I didn't have the attention span too learn the theory but I was up till four in the morning studying deep purple, steve vai and joe satriani performances and playing along too live concerts.
College was a turbulent time (I had alot of trouble outside college). I spent two years on a BNC music course and music technology course, whilst trying too up my grade in maths (I've always considered it important for music). after a year I stopped going too the tech course (which I heavily regret) and performed several times for the BNC course.
I found college hard, there was no niche too fit in, everyone wanted too be a pop band and play novelty covers and write songs about how they drove too work on a sunday morning, saw this girl, hilarity ensues as they try too notice each other, and it all ends up with a jovial good time and a rousing chorus. Which although is fine subject matter for lyrics, got a bit boring for me after playing three chord songs after three chord songs.
I was labelled shredder and no-one thought I was a capable musician, no-one wanted me in their band and in the last term I was stuck playing bass with little belief my life was going too go anywhere in the music business.
Ironically, the guitarist in that band, despite saying I was a terrible guitarist, asked me too teach him how too solo ¬_¬
I passed college with a merit, and passed the tech course by staying up two nights in a row and completing the entire course in those two nights.
and now, six months later, here I am
my influences are huge, varied and many. From Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Jethro Tull too Morbid Angel and Megadeth.
