Yesterday I've heard about Mali's blues and started reading about the origins of blues. I knew that it was related to Africa but never get too much into it.

There are some really great Malian Blues players!!
I've seen Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabate play live a few times! Check out an album that Ali did with Ry Cooder called 'The River'! Also, check out the band Tinariwen and there's also a series of CD's called Desert Blues which are compilation Albums. Ghana has a rich 'blues' tradition well.
This track is a little more towards the Highlife style but check out the guitar. Here's some Tuareg blues. The sheer amount of incredible African music is overwhelming. One of the fascinating aspects of the 'journey' is that British and American guitar (blues, rock, soul, funk, jazz) has also influenced and informed a lot of the African guitar music. The exchange back and forth is constant.
Fela Kuti is probably the most obvious exponent of Afro-beat. He was Nigerian but also lived in Ghana and even Los Angeles for a year. He usually employs two guitarists that have some incredible interlocking parts. Check out how James Brown esque the parts are but still distinctly African. Another Nigerian, King Sunny Ade was super influential to bands like the Talking Heads and later (80s era) King Crimson. Check out some 'Synchro System' live.
