Am I doing the exercise right? I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

I Think I don't mute the strings, the 3rd one I believe, but even though I feel like that I have no idea how to stop it, not even after wtaching Pavel's Sweeping Basics blink.gif

I don't think you have such a bad muting problem here- more about seperating notes with the left hand.

You should practise this a little slower- as you right hand seems to want to accelerate past your left hand so maybe going a little slower will help synchronise them. Once you have them playing together then you can get some speed later with the metronome.

Watched it now as well.

I agree with DeepRoots. Practice a little slower with a lot of focus on the synchronization, as well as timing - maybe play the arpeggios with 8th notes at 80 bpm. No acceleration allowed, or change in note duration! smile.gif

One more things to add if I may. smile.gif

You are not playing note E on 12th fret on high E string while ascending,why is that?

Maybe because it's mpeg, you have to download it...Loading it for me didn't worked as well and I saw others have it in WMV so maybe that's it laugh.gif

@Muris
Hmm, Gotta review that...
I find to have problems with turning the angle of the pick when ascending, I have to lift my hand to make the angle right, don't know if I'm suppose to do that and maybe that's why I don't hit it

I see.. smile.gif

Well,when doing sweeping you shouldn't change the angle a lot,
that way you'll have no issue to switch from ascending to descending. smile.gif

Direction is going down or up,ascending or descending,sweeping.
But if you change the angle of the pick too much
you might find it very difficult to execute. smile.gif

Your arpeggio goes like this, right:

CODE
Spor 1
      E   E   E   E   E   E   E   E      E   E
E||------------------15--12----------|----------||
B||--------------13----------13------|----------||
G||----------12------------------12--|----------||
D||------14--------------------------|--14------||
A||--15------------------------------|------15--||
E||----------------------------------|----------||

That is a somewhat irregular arpeggio, concerning lead playing, I'd say. But more of the style that would be used to arpeggiate a chord with clean non-distorted playing - though of course, everything can be played!

This is actually what I thought you were attempting - which I'd say is more often seen in lead playing:

CODE
Spor 1
      S   S  S  S  S  S  S   S  S  S  S  S Q
E||------------------12-15p-12------------------|-------||
B||---------------13-----------13---------------|-------||
G||------------12-----------------12------------|-------||
D||---------14-----------------------14---------|-------||
A||--10h-15-----------------------------15------|-------||
E||---------------------------------------------|-------||

Do you think I change it to much on the second video?

I'm watching the first video and you DO change the angle a lot,
just watch the whole descending part,you kind a twist the whole fist when going down.
Now,if you take a look at some very fast sweep players
you'll see that there is no movement like this,
first of all you don't have enough time to do that
and second,there is no need to do it.

So try to keep the same position of the fist and pick,
just like when you're doing some regular AP lick,
it'll be much easier later when you get used to it. smile.gif

A for the arpeggio you're playing,
you have a odd groping here which isn't very often,
4 notes in ascending and 5 in descending.
But if that feels comfortable for you then go for it. smile.gif
To have it more common you should just add note E and high E string 12th fret ,
then 15th fret played with upstroke,pull of to 12th and continue the sweep
with all upstrokes.

Take your time on arpeggios, yeah! It's a technique that really takes some time to get clean and good-sounding.

I'm thinking of doing like...First try a maximum speed at metronome than practise for weeks like 50% of that speed, 60 % to get a clean sound but I first need to see if I'm doing it right smile.gif
