not used the pure cabinet, I'll give that a try thanks. smile.gif

Pure cabinet is especially useful for taming profiles done by less experienced profilers. I found turning it up and the browsing the Rig Exchange can give you endless possibilities.

This one speaks for itself:

To me this is the most enjoyable/listenable one we have done so far, what do you say?

Caels delivery and lyrics are so full character - it's mezmerizing! You can clearly hear he has 'been there and done that' - you just can't fake good lyrics. And Gab's melancholic chorus vocals fit like a glove!

SO:

blink.gif cool.gif wub.gif biggrin.gif

WE ROCK!!!

I just want to add "WHO ELSE COULD BE YOU, BUT YOU?"

edit2: Since I am the only one commenting so far, I just want to add that I have listened to it 5 more times and this is really GOOD!

QUOTE (Rammikin @ Jan 12 2017, 03:37 PM) *
I agree that a Kemper sounds great. I was delighted with the sound when I owned one. But sounding great is not enough any more.

Fractal and Line 6 Helix and Kemper are all in the same class when it comes to amp sound quality. IMHO anybody who tells you they prefer the sound (or feel) of one over the other is just reacting to the way a preset is tweaked differently in one vs. the other. It's the features peripheral to the sound that distinguish these competitors from one another. Things like USB output, a preset editor app, flexible module routing, extensive control from pedals, dual amps, effects variety and quality, accurate modeling of amp controls. These are all features that, even Chris Kemper would admit, are better in the competition.

The marketplace has changed since the Kemper was initially released, with new products from the competition coming out. That doesn't change the fact that a Kemper sounds great. It just means the price of a Kemper is becoming increasingly difficult to justify.

So you are saying it's a fact that most people prefer advanced routing (etc) instead of owning any-amp-in-the-world-in-one-box?

You might have missed the explosive growth of Kemper, which would indicate the exact opposite.

Check out the Fractal AX8. In some ways it's even better than the Kemper, but the price is much lower.

The sound quality on a Kemper is as good as an AxeFXII or AX8, but for about the same price as a Kemper, the AxeFXII has many more features. The AX8 has similar features to the Kemper, but a much lower price. I used to enthusiastically recommend Kemper, but IMHO the competition has passed them by in the past couple of years.

This is always an interesting discussion. How can a unit that pretty much flawlessly sounds and behaves like any amp+cabinet in the world - through patented technique - get surpassed by competition?

QUOTE (Mertay @ Jan 10 2017, 07:06 PM) *
To be fair Kemper further developed the unit, the first demo's weren't so close to the sampled sound as it is today. Also nowadays Kemper users started demanding multi-amp samplings from 3rd party developers, in theory this should be acheveable by the current device.

I think we agree - but I still need to point out that even in the beginning of Kemper history, it took a very experienced studio guitarist to feel the difference - because hearing was virtually impossible.

With the tweaks Kemper have done now it is not really possible to even feel the difference anymore.

We should probably also add that the notion of groove is somewhat subjective. So what I perceive as groovy might not feel groovy to you. Hence the different perspectives.

You know, I find it interesting that you all seem to consider it a human thing. I've often felt that something that was just programmed was grooving.

Yes there are lots of super groovy programmed music, but then the whole trick is usually to make the programming sound 'human': timing inconsistencies, volumes differences, many different samples etc. Otherwise it won't groove!

Ken that makes sense to me. Here is a groovy favorite of mine starting at 00:47

I doubt Sco is ever really on the beat, but man does it groove!

Groove can have a lot of precision.
Precision in the sense that every player always knows and feels exactly where the downbeat is and where it's going to be. And they all feel it in the same place at the same time - no questions asked.

Makes sense. But would you say they need to play exactly on the downbeat, or just feel where it is?

Stay tuned for this one, its going to be great.

It's indeed in the making. And all I can say for now is that Cael's rapping is sounding exceptionally cool!

Very interesting topic!

To me - cool groove means that you play in a "human" way. In other words not with too much precision like machine would - but still solid enough to sound good.

Put simple: play in time but be relaxed!

I was really intrigued by Cael's rapping, and I tried to add something at the end of it. Here is my take:

Hello, I've been practicing sweep picking for the past few months, and before I increase the bpm, I wanna be sure that I'm doing everything right and see if there is room for improvements.

Sounds pretty good - listening to 00:22 was especially interesting. With sweeping - more than any other technique - it's easy to completely miss problem areas. So it's always good to do a reality check at a very slow speed.

My goal when playing slow is to never miss more than 0,5% of notes - as this will translate to a clean technique.

I will let Gab comment on his lessons - but one thing I reacted on was the fact you were out of tune on the high notes. I would suggest you try the following

1) make sure you are in tune

2) if you are in tune but high note still sound off - clean your strings. If that does not work change them

3) if thing still sound wrong you must intonate your guitar, always do this with a fresh set of strings.
