I have never ever been labeled for anything, not that I'm aware of at least.

Stereo types of any kind are funny and sad at the same time.

I know when i was in school back in the mid 80's i used to always get people asking me where they could buy pot.

I was like, um. Why would i know. They just assumed because i had long hair and played guitar i must be a pot smoker.

Go figure

Daniel

HAHA, I can sympathize with you, I've had more than a few chronics ask me where they could buy pot, it's awkward, but it's just sad that they resort to asking strangers for help to find the least addictive drug in the world....that they happen to be addicted to. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif Maybe it's because I love Psychedelic and Stoner Rock music? laugh.gif

I've also had 1 person tell me I look like I smoke ice because I have high cheekbones or something, and my reaction to it was like"Wha....?!" I don't even smoke cigarettes! laugh.gif But that dude was a total druggie, so I felt bad for him, and pissed off that it's so easy for people to find horrible drugs that ruin their lives. But it's not like he didn't have a choice not to do crack.

I've never been labeled Emo or Goth or anything like that, even when I go to shows with Emo bands playing, I guess I look too angry all the time for people to label me Emo. But I have had people think I was a punk or metalhead, witch is fine with me because I love both styles of music, even though I don't like people passing judgment on me before they get to know me.

But in the end I see people that label other people as just, well...ignorant, I think you really have to get know someone before you really know what they are like.

It's ridiculous to throw around different labels like that .. People don't even know if there is a difference between all the popular labels anymore .. I guess some teenagers just like to fit in to a certain minority group to feel special and rebelly, And I agree on labelling others is a way to show that the person is unsure about his/hers identity.

Edit: You guys are such GMC'ers happy.gif

In my opinion it all depends on the tone and general behaviour of the person who is calling you names. Some people used to call me a Neanderthal (which is pretty accurate, because I look and behave like one tongue.gif ) but they had their own names aswell, and it was meant in good spirits. Which I have absolutely no problem with.

I have also been called a lot of names in a very negative way, many things I can't type here. Which I do feel sad about, not anymore because they call me that, but rather that these people are so ignorant of the world and ignorant of common decency. And That makes me sad. People who can't accept others the way they are, are in my opinion just sad.

Just my two-cents

J

Anyone can be called a emo or an goth. But only the people who don't accept others as who they are, and walks around "labeling" people, is in my eyes the worst and only true kind of label. Since they're basicly labeling themselves to be that way.

Be glad you were called an emo, here is my story about 'being labeld':
Yesterday I went out withsome friends(long hair, black clothes, heading towards a disco where they play metal)
We were standing outside on a parking place having a talk, just wanted to enter as a young woman sitting in a car stopped next to us. She lowered the windows an began to talk to us: "Hey you guys, I am a reborn christ you know? And I want you to know that Jesus loves all of you. He died for our sins... bla bla." I answered polite as I am, that I am glad she is happy with that, but I also added that I amm not interested in that kind of stories.
After that she called me a satanist (maybe because she was envy about my long hair huh.gif ) and judged all people that listen to this satanic music (I assume she referred to metal) as Satanists.
Well, I don't really like these people who judge others by their appearance. Why do people always try to convince others with their belives?
Can't we just live in peace?

P.S.
Just for the record:
I am not a satanist(at least not by the definition which is spread among christians)

by the way: True satanist are atheists, did you know that?

Peace is good.
Hmmm, I'm an atheist.

QUOTE (Canis @ Jul 26 2008, 11:29 PM) *
Yep. The word "Satanist" is misleading.. It doesen't mean you worship satan, drawing pentagrams, setting churches on fire and stuff... It means you worship yourself ^^
Atheist just means that you don't believe in any god. Nothing wrong with that, in my eyes =)

That's me smile.gif

QUOTE (black and white @ Jul 26 2008, 11:37 PM) *
What is worse, or maybe just sad, is when you are so old and out of the loop, that you don"t know what these labels mean....(big sigh) blink.gif

What is great, is when you are so old that you don"t really care what these labels mean laugh.gif

I fit both those catagories

That's me biggrin.gif

Could be anything but i can tell you ,from the point of view of a 15 year old, that it's that newer rap and hollywoods glamourization of things nobody should do. Or at least this is true in my school. Not really sure about other cities and schools.

Being labeled is part of growing up and get related with people, I´m ok with that.
About atheism or any system of belief, they have their own way of doing things, so they don´t mind yours, so atheism are not satanism becouse they just don´t care about god or satan, put it in some way, budist people think about jesus just the same christian people do about Buda....nothing..... but again we don´t live alone and we get to make some opinion over comon culture beliefs
