It is true the Regan era 'trickle down' method of distributing the wealth has been a complete failure. It's so bizarre to think that people today here in the US refer to funding public projects as 'building bridges to no where' and 'giving lazy [ethnic slur] people work'. The poor in this country are so completely blind that they actually support tax cuts for the people netting the most money every year even though year after year they struggle and struggle. Why not question your governments tax policies?

I mean it's almost pathetic, these people are hardworking and genuine citizens - they just seem to lack any sort of cognitive ability. They just don't try to think for themselves, they don't question what's going on and why it's going on, they just accept the status quo and go along for the ride. I think that's one of the major contributing factors in the economic slow down in the US... No one wants to change their standard of living, no one wants to question government, no one wants to stand up for themselves.
I mean, 50 Billion dollars to companies that created Hummers, Tahoes, Yukons - big, stupid vehicles no one really needed that have the lowest mpg rating in the world. While in Europe people drive around vehicles that get 30mpg.
We live an unsustainable life style in America and if everyone lived the way we do we'd need 4.5 planets.

I'm not saying in any capacity I don't like it here, I just think the rest of the world needs to be factored in before we make decisions. The world is a very precarious balancing act and we've been off kilter for awhile it seems..

Respectfully, I disagree with almost every single word of your post. The only exception I see is your dislike of the $50 billion that went to the auto industry. Our government was not set up to protect anyone from failing. There are procedures in place for that. It's called bankruptcy, not government bailout. Especially when it is a known fact that the US government does not have the money to be giving. They can only print more money which is worth almost nothing and THAT will be the biggest problem. Inflation.

And the rest of us will be dragged down if the almighty dollar fall...
I see a future with superinflation where we go to the store with a sack of money to buy a loaf of bread.
If you want to buy a guitar you'd need to hire a truck to transport the money in...

Wow, one of those would solve US:s financial problems... rolleyes.gif

And I thought it was a real pain to travel to Turkey some years ago and pay a few 100.000's turkish money for a coke...
Imagine going to Zimbabwe on vacation, strolling around shopping some stuff in the market, trying to count currency in your head while you shop?
1 US Dollar = 37,398,308 Zimbabwe Dollar
1 Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWD) = 0.00000003 US Dollar (USD)

i looked at a projections chart for the future in my accounting class...china is one of the countries predicted to have the most unemployment in the next decade

You can look at any economical/financial curve/chart/prediction whatever... It is a well-known fact that China's figures point straight up, USA's point down. Nobody really question IF China will develop to #1 in the world, it's just a question of WHEN...
Of course China is now effected by this crisis, as everyone else, but they do much better than US and the west.
China holds considerable amounts of US treasury securities $682 BILLION! China has USA by the balls... In this very dangerous situation for USA in this crisis, China could already, if they wanted, hurt US very bad economically. They have no interest of this, cause it would also hurt themselves, but USA have to realize they have some serious problems right now.

Well it is something to see teens taking an intrest in what is going on today in the states . First read a little history about the great depression and its results as we have similiar circumstances today. Learn all you can about investing, money, credit. Take school serious, apply yourself with diligence and if possible make an effort to go to college or learn a techinical skill.
The situation is not good as our goverment does not undertand that you can not tax and spend and keeping doing so without e consequences. Our "new" administration is not new. There ideas about "economic" recovery are no different then FDR and they did not work as only WWII dug us out of a hole. That is why Obama is considering re=instituitng the draft.

Ztevie, Fatb0t, Tony...I agree with all of you but I have something to say about this...

QUOTE (ztevie @ Jan 27 2009, 11:40 AM) *
I try not to think too much about future horror stories, it just makes life miserable. We can all do a small part, trying to save energy and water and so on, but in a global aspect the action must come from those who rule the world...

The major problem here is not that we can only do a small part, it's that the world is a very greedy place. If the whole world could put aside all the hatred and feud we could make this happen. Peace would bring this world together and there would be so many less problems and there would be so many more people to work together on solving all of the other existing problems such as finding cures for disease. Think about it, if people from countries that can't afford to have education or anything all the sudden had that opportunity there would be so many more people working on just that one single problem. Then think about it in a worldly perspective, we could get so much more done. That just shows how greed and hatred cause so much damage to our world.

If I had billions of dollars I would be doing everything I can with it to help out in situations like all of this. It's really time to come together as one I believe! But that's just my thought. What do you guys think?
