I haven't listened to presonus monitors but these days DSP enhanced monitos are becoming a thing.
It's not room correction but helps the monitor to sound ridiculously flat for the price. I was skeptical till I listened an Adam T7V, impressed to be honest. I was expecting negative digital-related negative tone qualities but that wasn't the case at all. Maybe dynamics was a bit limited but for the price thats expected. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Fluid-Audio/FX...udio-Monitor.gc More expensive but I've been reading good reviews from these from people I trust(also DSP enhanced). They are small but doesn't aim for the role of crappy speakers. |

Those monitors you mentioned are $300 a pair which is in the "budget range" but also the same price as the KALI AUDIO LP6 which are darn good monitors. I would like to hear a set of the FLUID monitors as I keep reading good things about them. I have yet to find anyone who has a pair in their home studio though. I've not seen them in guitar center in the speaker room, etc. I suppose it will just take time Yeah, these are not the "crap" auratone/horrortone monitors that are meant to show what playback on a bad rig will sound like. The new version of the auratone are actually pricier than I expected.
You've probably seen auratone monitors in pictures of pro studios around the world, especially if the studio has been around for a while, they will also have a pair of NS10M and a set of mains mounted in the walls. This gives 3 sets of playback devices and covers most things which is why the configuration is so common in pro studios. They stopped making auratones for a while, but they started up again and now the new versions cost about $300 a pair. They still sound a bit crap, but they are sorta supposed to sound just a bit crap All joking aside, they do focus on the mid range which is always important in working to get good vocals/guitar/etc. I haven't listened to presonus monitors but these days DSP enhanced monitos are becoming a thing. But there are still wads of folks who love the yellow cones ya, I have a pair of KRKs come on ,laugh a little |

I have a pair of the 'Fluid Audio' FX50s ($300 US). It's another company started by an ex JBL guy, like Kali.
A friend of mine, up until recently, owned an audiophile shop and I got a closeout pair from him. I was using them as stereo speakers with my turntable (via a phono preamp) Now that I'm recording at home the Fluids have been re-purposed back to their original purpose - monitors. They sound great to me but this is my first pair of near-field monitor speakers actually being used as monitors in a recording environment. I'm also not doing any mixing. I just need to be able hear stuff relatively flat and clean. Between these and decent pair of headphones I've been getting good results. The Fluids are are also pretty compact as they are coaxial. They fit perfectly in my space. *I almost popped for a pair of the Kalis via Todds suggestion but I had these already and I really needed a decent LDC mic. Glad you liked them, I'm not in the market for monitors but curious to hear those myself one day cause of the coaxial design. |
