Hello GMCers!
I was thinking of tuning one of my guitars with only 3 strings tuned to E with an octave interval between each in order to try to play a few Paul Gilbert songs (Get Out Of My Yard, Three E's For Edward). The problem is that I don't know what's the best way to do it. I guess I would have to switch some strings, but I have really no idea of what would be the best solution. Did anyone else do it here ? Thanks for your advices!
I once did it, but I just used B and G strings Dont really remember what I felt like though
Edit : I just did it again on my old guitar and noticed that you G strings gets so tight that you almost cant bend it
So probably the best solution is to use 3 e strings. Or just play it on 1 string
Edit2 : I checked out the Get Out of my Yard tab and noticed that I did I completly wrong I turned all the strings to same pitch, which made the G string almost snap But you need to turn them lower, I did this and there were no problems. So it is possible with your normal strings
I did it once on one of my guitars, it was pretty cool. I just used regular low E, D string tuned up to E and regular high E. Paul seems to be using a G string tuned down to E instead of a D string
Thanks for your advices, I justed tuned it with 2 E strings and a D and it works great!
Or you can only tune D to E and do some skipping.
