hey Mark, just remember there are no stupid Questions, just stupid moderators (me laugh.gif wink.gif )

You will have to start slow and work your way up, dont feel bad about dialing in a low speed on your metrone. If you can play it clean and slow your better than the majority who will play it fast and messy!

Good luck smile.gif

That reminds me when I started to learn alternate picking.
At the beginning it was 60 Bpm.. so frustrating sad.gif but after some weeks, I play twice as fast.
So Patience is an important thing if you want to achieve some goals smile.gif

Cheers

well, i must agree with mattatuck.
You should really work yourself up to the speed instead of pushing yourself to play too fast. That will only lead to bad tone and presisasion.

You will come to the 225bpm limit sooner then you think, if you stick to the rules.

I prefer to completely forget about speed when practicing. Sure its good to be able to play fast, but that is a bi-product not the most important aspect which is of course tone and control smile.gif

Why do slow people always say that? laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

But yeah you're right it isn't the most important thing, but I always thought that if you are techniqually perfect that you can play all songs you like. And that's why you started playing guitar, isn't it?
But I do know that being able to play fast doesn't help you the write music, but it atleast ables you to play stuff other people wrote..

Offcourse, i would love to be able to shred insanely fast as well, currently working on that part laugh.gif

But what is the definition of being able to play something, if you can play something at 300bmp, but it isnt tight will you call it playing because you hit most notes right? I think if you can play something flawlessly without losing tempo or hitting any wrong notes you can say " i can play this". I saw in your vid Mark you did some insane chops and really nice arpeggio's, if you slowed it down just 5-10% it would sound really awsome if you know what i mean smile.gif

Edit: I'm not saying that I'm techniqually perfect, I'm faaaar from it lol*

Actually i believe when u are able to move faster along the fretboard, your fingers become more coordinated w/ YOU and you have more control...plus u can write ur own stuff easier because u may want to use pauses and shred like crazy the next 5 min and go soft w/ chords for 2-3 min and just improvise w/ that. But i will say the sound to me is more important than the speed. I mean who would want to listen to someone shred if they just kinda played the notes..I'd rather listen to something like...the nice smooth feel of "Hotel California," or somehting like that rather than just a sound. I wanna HEAR and FEEL the music not just listen.
