Post your top metronome bpm (beats-per-minute) speeds. When you have made some progress just edit your post - but leave the old speeds so we can see your progress. Don't forget to chose font "Courrier new" (upper left corner) when posting your tabs.
Here are some of my current exercises and speeds. I will most likely not get to edit my speeds - since I no longer focus on inreasing speed, but rather correct mistakes (cleanliness, control, eveness etc) caused by me wanting to push speed a little to quickly....

gday mates,
i been practising a lot on the metronome lately i just thought id post my bpm ....im not sure if what im doin is correct or not but its the way i have been doin it so if u think its wrong gis a buzz and ill try it another way....
eighths: A minor pentatonic scale ascending then descending @ 170bpm
Sixteenths : 12----14 (d)
12----14 (a) ( repeating ) @ 96 bpm
Triplets: something like this 8---7---5 (e)
8---7---5 ( b )
8---7---5 (g ) Repeating @ 110bpm
Sixteenth triplets:2 note per string 12---14 (g)
12---14 (d)
12---14 (a) repeating @ 59 bpm
Now im not sure if u are meant to do the same notes all the time like everything is done 12----14 all the time like youse have been doin it or i can be anywhere...this is just what ive been practising but ive done it other ways and its pretty much the same.
Cheers mates \m/
I havenĀ“t practised a lot on the metronom. But there will now be a change.

why does everyone want to play so fast?
my bpm is crap! like most of my playing at the mo. cant seem to get my head round most exercises
it's not really about playing fast it's about keeping time i think. Playing fast is just a plus, i feel that keeping time is the ultimate goal
Okay I have edited my first post and added bpm:S and tabs. Scroll up or click http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=2131&st=0#.
OK, I'm new to the metronome, and I can't play that fast, so I have alot of room to improve!
Simple four notes chromatic per string, so I'm moving from string to string.

About the metronom. Yesterday I practised 4 hours with the metronom, and after that my fingers was tired so I started a backing track and i thought: "WOW I got feeling today "
And the same thing today. I come up with very nice improvisation.

Congrats!
so could some body give me a few ideas on how long to practise ?
So i've been practicing with a metronome every day now for a while and i'm noticing big improvements in my speed. I decided to start posting my results on here as well.

Well guess its about time I added my speeds. Ive been here at GMC around 1 month now and here is where I'm at...
Eighth notes 165 bpm
Triplets 110 bpm
Sixtenth notes 85 bpm
Sixtenth not triplets 60 bpm
already made alot of progress and looking foward to alot more.....
I've been working on speed since early December ..
started under 60 bpm 16 note triplets.
Feb 6 16th note trips 72 bpm
I have been playing for about 3 months and about a month or 2 here at GMC and this is what I'm up to...
Eighth notes 190 bpm
Triplets 140 bpm
Sixteenth notes 110 bpm
Sixteenth note triplets 67 bpm
Kris i was also wondering with those times from me, what do you suggest would be a good way to play ( ie: with 2, 3, 5 notes per beat etc.) the five note licks from your horizontal pentatonic shifting lesson at 100 bpm?
I've shopped at the same store for twenty years and the owner laughed pretty good when I came in for a metronome. Anyway, this is the first time I've practiced for any real length of time. I'll just post the lesson I'm working on for now. The speeds are hard for me for two reasons (1) I am primarily a rythm guitar player and (2) I have switched how I hold my pick and it makes me feel like I'm playing left handed.

Just a basic Lick that i practice speed and accuracy with, now i have it down at almost 190bpm Speedpicking, If i cheat and do it legato i can get to almost 200, legato seems to be easier to play faster in for me, For the last 3 moths or so, ive bee practicing speeding up what i already know how to do, Sweep, Tap, And Picking. i try to practice each 45-60 minutes every day for each technique
This i can play at my fastest, 16th notes, 200bpm, Sweepin comes easy to me, especially 3 string (Thanks to M.A.B.'s Speed Kills 1 and 2! )

|----------------------------------------------------------
and if i change to this, the tempo drops to about 185-190. and if i did it 4 string sweeps, well, i cant do 4 string sweeps, i dont know why, but i can barely play them at all for some reason

EDIT: I got a new guitar! It seems i can play a lot faster with it
At the start of the day i was playing 16th not triplets at 60bpm, ive been playin for 8 hours straight now i play 100bpm. I signed up, and started speedpicking last night.
Thx, Kris u & ur lessons rock!
I set my metronome to 100bpm. I play scales Major and Min Pentatonic at this speed. I still don't understand the connection but I'm doing it. My brain is not connecting the Metronome and the scales but I'm still trying.
g
Kris,
I've been playing for a while but I seriously want to play well. So here I am. 70bpm is where I will start and try to play clean before increasing the speed.
Wish me luck.
This is probably gonna shock you all...
My metronome is ticking at 40 bpm with scale patterns...
But only because I've found out about a method of practicing called "21 day method"
The whole purpose of the method is that you play a exercise superslow, for 21 days.
I found out about the method on UG.com, and it seems be quite good... I tell you more when I've finished the 21 days.
But otherwise I'm playing sixteenth note chromatics at 120 bpm, and triplet scale patterns at 95 bpm...
Just started the metronome lesson to day. I don't have a metronome at the moment but have one on the way. I'm using the one on the lesson and decided I will start off with the 60bpm. When mine gets hear I'll tinker with the bpm.

Peace!
I have been teaching myself for a whole year before i found this site last week, and now ive showed major improvement and i practice for endless hours Well, i just started using the metronome so my numbers are a bit low.

double post sorry
Whatever happened to this topic? I'd like to bring it back
To be honest, I just started using the metronome two nights ago! And I've only been alternate picking since about 2 months ago, maybe a little less. So here's where I am:
Whole notes: somewhere in between 300 and 400bpm I don't care much to find out
Eighth notes: at least 240, haven't pushed myself much with the eighth notes.
Triplets: 120bpm in a pattern like so:
E |-10-12-13----------|
B |----------10-12-13-|
G |-------------------|
D |-------------------|
A |-------------------|
E |-------------------|
et cetera.
Sixteenth Notes: 100bpm, in a pattern adding an extra note to the last one:
E |-10-12-13-12-------------|
B |-------------10-12-13-12-|
G |-------------------------|
D |-------------------------|
A |-------------------------|
E |-------------------------|
et cetera.
Sixteenth Note Triplets: about 60bpm, in a 2 string pattern:
E |-------------------|
B |-------------------|
G |-------------------| x4
D |----------12-------|
A |-10-12-13----13-12-|
E |-------------------|
followed by
E |-------------------|
B |-------------------|
G |-------------------| x4
D |----------13-------|
A |-10-12-13----13-12-|
E |-------------------|
where I switch from index-middle-ring-middle-ring-middle to index-middle-slide middle-ring-middle-middle
I also do stuff lower on the fretboard, and different patterns, variations on these, etc, but the 10-12-13 kind of thing is basically my standard measuring tool, if you will, for when I want to test my speed.
I don't post much but I thought I'd make an exception and try something.
Starting now I'm going to play the exercises in Kris's opening post and see how long it will take to get up to the same speed as him (yeah right). I haven't played any of these before so this first update will probably be full of really really slow bpms.
Anyway, time to pick up the guitar!
