hello everyone, another question today smile.gif
today my guitar teacher told me that i should raise the pickups on my electric guitar( those are dimarzios)
it worked great on my neck pickup, but when i raised the bridge pickup(dimarzio evolution), some heavy feedback started in the lead channel.
not the kind of string feedback, it was like when you place your guitar right after the amp and mute the strings. kind of horrible feedback. my pickup were at about 1 centimeter of the low e strings when feedback started.

i tried to tweak eq to get rid of it, and the only way i found to play without that noise is to play very far from my amp mad.gif

oh and also when i touch the pickup, it stops. suddently, then it start again when i release it dry.gif

should i keep my pickups low or is there a solution?

thank you a lot for answers smile.gif

Sounds like a good feedback if you ask me. Then again, I love noise so we see things differently smile.gif.

I'm not really helping haha sorry

Perhaps you're sitting too close to your amplifier?
Feedback is cool thing indeed but annoying if it happens all the time.
So just be sure that you're not sitting too close to your amplifier,
eventually try lowering bridge pickup a bit. smile.gif

I agree with Muris, if this "problem" was not there before you raised the pickup, the just lower it a bit again, only to the point where you are in control about the feedback again.

i found the^problem cool.gif

in fact i was having feedback because my pickup was vibrating. when i was touching it, it stopped, like when the string vibration stops when we mute the string

so... why did that only occured when i raised the pickups you ask?

well, my father suppose that this has to do with the tension on the spring on the pickup mounting. but im not sure how huh.gif

anyway, if i place 2 guitar pick i the pickup cavity, so the body and the pickup actually touch each other, the pickup don't vibrate, so there is no weird feedback

im a genius, i know biggrin.gif
( im just kidding)

It's not so easy as raise and lower, this is magnetism and should be proportioned so that the strings won't budge.
Don't listen to that.

And to answer your last question, you can have the pickups however you want, BUT, they have to be proportioned.
This means that the total of magnetism can't raise above a certain degree.

This greatly influences sustain and sound.
Personally I have my neck pickup high, mid mid, and bridge reasonably low.
This however, is a preference only, and it depends on what stuff you like to play.

Anyway, when you are setting up your mics, you should put your ear to the guitarwood and listen to the sustain, but at the same time like the tone that's coming outta your amp.

Hope this clears things alittle, but I must emphasize that setting up pickups really is a job for a professional luthier, or someone with alot of experience doing such.

Good luck!

Yeah, spring(or both) probably felt off so it doesn't hold pickup any more.
