Thanks for sharing that Gabriel, very usefull, i often find my left hand cramping inbetween the thunb and index finger during extended barre chord songs. These streches should help with that.

Yes, stretching and generally not jumping to light speed (if you can hit that laugh.gif) straight away are both good ideas. Rock Discipline is a great instructional, would definately recommend it!

Although, whenever I see a clip, it always brings me back to this hilarious dubbed mini-series laugh.gif Here's part 1:

A great video. Warming up is really important. So many times when I was first learning I would jump in cold and get less out of practice than I wanted. Burnout to quick. Get tired/stiff way to fast. For our 2 hour marathon on saturday, I do full body stretches for 20 minutes before starting chat. People come and go sometimes but I'm there for the 2 hours plus shredding for a good bit of the time. So warming up is critical. Not to mention I'll be sitting in correct classical posture for 2 hours straight to stretching out my back is important. Otherwise I'm really stiff when I stand up at the end.

We do hand/finger stretches together as a group. I'm going to start to encourage people to do some full body work before we start. Thanks again for the share!

I based a lot of my stretching on what I learned from Rock Discipline. I felt that ten seconds for his stretches weren't enough for me, so I bumped them to 30 seconds after a month or so of experimenting. It really does get you relaxed.

Very good video! Definitely helps! It is very important to stretch and warm up before playing. When I went to music college I knew a few people who overplayed their hands!!! One guy couldn't play for half a year and another one had to quit guitar forever! It's crazy how such a little thing can be crucial! So be careful and do what John says!!!

Stretching and warming up your hands are just essential for a good practice session.
I think of it almost as lifting weights, if you give a couple of minutes to warm up and stretch your muscles you're most definately gonna have a better work out, hence get alot of more results out of it!
